Rested at the Sunwing Family 5* hotel for 7 nights, all inclusive. I want to share my impressions of my 29th vacation in Egypt, the 4th in Makadi Bay. Rested at the Sunwing Family 5* hotel for 7 nights, all inclusive. This hotel belongs to the famous chain "Red Sea Hotels", in Makadi there are 5 hotels of this chain nearby, there is a huge green area for walking.
This is my 3rd vacation at "Sunwing Family 5*", I left reviews. I will not repeat myself, I will write about the main thing.
I arrived at the hotel around 1:00 p. m. , I was checked in immediately, at my request they gave me my favorite room 303. I like quiet rooms on high floors. From the huge balcony there is a wonderful view of palm trees and the sea. I never heard the neighbors, only planes flying over the hotel at night. The room consists of two rooms, about 50 square meters. The equipment is very old (TVs, refrigerator), but it is not important for me.
Unfortunately the daily housekeeping this time was very poor, i. e. almost non-existent, after I stopped leaving a tip, the situation improved surprisingly. There were even figurines made of towels. But the room needs general cleaning: wiping the furniture, washing the balcony, windows, washing the curtains and more.
The territory was and remains one of the main advantages of the hotel. Many tall palm trees, flowers, fountains, paths are illuminated at night. It is clear that the hotel is well cared for. You can walk around the territory of 5 hotels of the "Red Sea Hotels" chain. The atmosphere is romantic, and even fabulous, very cozy.
There are several pools, and even a jacuzzi. Personally, I am not interested in swimming pools at all. Children's and adult water parks worked. Went to an adult. Unfortunately, not all slides worked.
Food. Used main restaurants and a la carte. In the main restaurants, the choice is not great, but you can always find a dish to your taste. The main thing is that the products are fresh.
There are no long queues, there are always free tables, it is quite clean, and the service is good.
Not all a la cartes for lunch worked, it's a pity. The choice of dishes has also become smaller, the basis of dishes is fast food. I liked the restaurant of Mexican cuisine the most for lunch. I really liked the dinner at "Kebab Island" (grill restaurant). Among the Makadi Mall restaurants, she had dinner at her favorite Golden Dragon (Chinese cuisine) and Mafia Classic (Italian cuisine). Service in restaurants remained at an excellent level.
There are several all-inclusive bars. I preferred the bar on the beach and the Lime Bar. The bars have standard Egyptian soft and alcoholic drinks. The quality of drinks is normal, the service is excellent. The beach bar has a lovely bartender with a sunny smile Tarek and at the Lime Bar my favorite waiter was Ramadan. On the second day of my vacation, these guys knew what I wanted to order and brought my drinks before I even had time to ask for them.
Animation is provided by a small animation team.
They did not impress me with anything special, I have seen much better shows. Therefore, I spent most evenings at the Lime Bar, listening to live music.
But there was one unpleasant moment that slightly spoiled the impression of rest. I bought a ticket for a fire show on the beach, offered by a hotel employee. There was no separate smoking area. And the level of culture of some guests did not allow them to guess that blowing tobacco smoke in other people's faces is not polite. I had to change my place 2 times, but it didn't help. In addition, the promised professional show did not start for 40 minutes, instead I had to watch the dances of the hotel entertainers of a very low level. After 40 minutes of intense passive smoking and waiting for the show, I didn't want to watch anymore, I value my time and my health. Unfortunately, 12 euros was paid for a spoiled mood.
Service is a strong point of the hotel. Almost all the staff are very attentive and polite.
Service is not intrusive and with a smile. Well done I want to immediately note the excellent impression of the reception staff Ahmed Eltayeb and Mahmoud. They were extremely friendly, polite and attentive to all my requests and needs throughout the entire stay. Also thanks to Hazem Rabh for organizing an unforgettable dinner at the grill bar and for the daily care. Thanks to the excellent service, I didn't want to pay attention to some minor problems. I want to sincerely thank you!!!!
The beach is clean and large, you feel comfortable. There is everything you need. Perfectly!
The sea in Makadi is impressive. I swam from Fort Arabesque Hotel to The Grand Makadi pontoon. The corals are different everywhere: from small clusters to a large barrier wall, the palette and architecture are wonderful. A lot of amphiprions, butterflies, parrots, groupers, arotrons, hailines, flutes, etc. It is better to see once than to read a hundred times. On the last day of rest, an impressive giant gray moray came to me, we swam with it very close at a distance of up to 1 m.

But, unfortunately, the hotel introduced some bad rule: you can now swim in the sea only from 10 am to 4 pm. If you try to swim earlier or later, you will not be allowed to do so. A beach worker on a boat literally drives tourists out of the sea. In addition, he also whistles very loudly, which is very unpleasant. If this is invented to protect tourists from shark attacks, then it is a mistake. A shark has no watch. They become more active in the dark. I had close encounters with sharks in other hotels 2 times.
This holiday I found minor flaws: the cleaning of my room became very bad, the slides in the adult water park are not all working, the a la carte restaurants for lunch are also not all working, the choice of dishes has become smaller, I was upset by an unpleasant incident with the show, I did not like the new time rule use of the sea
But thanks to the high level of service, kindness and attention of the hotel staff, I had a wonderful vacation.
Despite minor flaws, the hotel left a very positive impression. I would like to come back here again.

Monitored reviews for all 5 hotels of the Red Sea Hotels group, which includes the Sunwing Family 5 * hotel. For the price, quality and basic concepts, we decided to choose Sunwing again. The hotel was booked in January, there was no talk of any pandemic yet.
Transfer: Flight Kyiv - Hurghada 4 hours, flew on a Boeing 737 model aircraft, SkyAp airlines. Great plane, great crew. Departure on time, takeoff and landing were very smooth. Transfer to the hotel about 40 minutes.
Check-in and room: We arrived at the hotel at about 6 o'clock in the morning. We asked for the room we stayed in last year, but it was not ready to move in. We were given bracelets and sent to an early breakfast. After a snack, we went for a walk along the coast of Makadi. At 8 am we were given the keys to our favorite room. No surcharges. Well done!
Room 303 on the 3rd floor with a partial sea view. 2 rooms, total area 62 sq. m. In this hotel, the rooms are only of the “family” category, ideally designed for large families. The first room has a large comfortable bed, a large closet, a safe, bedside tables and an old TV. The second room has 2 small beds, sofa, large closet, mini-bar, large TV. Large balcony with sun loungers and table. Separate bathroom with shower, separate shower behind a curtain, 2 washbasins near the mirror and another one in the toilet. There is a small hair dryer. The room is very cozy and comfortable, soundproofing is good. It looks like the room has been cleaned. Our cleaner Gomaa immediately came to get acquainted. Bring bath accessories. I want to dwell a little more on cleaning the room, because. You don't meet such conscientious workers very often. Gomaa did not just clean and make figurines out of towels, bath accessories and water were replenished regularly, shoes and accessories were neatly displayed, as if “under a ruler”, bouquets of flowers were waiting for us in the bathroom and living room. Thank him very much!
Territory: every day did not get tired of admiring it, this is the "trump card" of the hotel. Reminds me of an oriental fairy tale. You can walk around the territory of all 5 hotels of the Red Sea Hotels group (each is magnificent in its own way). It's hard to describe, it's better to see it once. We walked in cloudy weather along the coast for several kilometers right up to the Stella Di Mare hotel, but I liked the territory of the Red Sea Hotels the most.
Swimming pools and water park: on the territory of 8 pools, 2 water parks: for children and adults. Children's very large, looks interesting. The adult consists of 5 very steep slides, I really liked it. We never swam in the pools, we were only interested in the sea.
Nutrition. Since we are at the hotel for the second time, we were not interested in the main restaurants (we know that the food there is not bad, but the choice is not large, it gets boring quickly). On the first day, we immediately signed up for 5 Makadi Mall restaurants. These are a la carte restaurants located 20 meters from our building. There are dishes on the system "all inclusive", there are dishes for an additional fee. Drinks only at an additional cost. Most of all I liked Golden Dragon - a la carte restaurant of Chinese cuisine.
You can also dine in the main restaurants, but we preferred lunch in a la carte restaurants (no appointment). Favorite bar was near the beach, where they hold shows and "Africa" in the evening. Very cool bartenders, great service. I drank wine and canned beer, the quality is good. Large selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, beer, juices, fanta, sprite, cola. I especially liked the fact that every evening there is live music in the bars: guitar, violin, vocalists. They perform world hits for every taste. The audience is dancing. It is very cool!! ! Huge plus for the hotel!
Animation. The level of the animation team did not match the level of the hotel at all. And here it's not about the show, which at the end of our holiday began to be held not every day, but in relation to the guests. The team used to work in Sharm, apparently in a cheap hotel. On the first day of our acquaintance, the animators told us with pleasure how they liked Sharm and didn’t like it here, that they had good guests in Sharm, there were only Germans here, but they didn’t like the Germans. It is not correct. However, one of the animators sat down with us in the evening and wondered for a long time if we would help him migrate to Germany. Once, at a volleyball game on the beach, the animators turned on Russian blatnyak (prison subculture music), we were shocked. But when we heard Natalie's song "The Wind Blowed from the Sea" (an ancient worn-out pop song) in the bar, we ran out of words. I emphasize that 99% of the guests are from Western Europe. The hotel is expensive and very pretentious. If animators like this kind of shitty music, then let them listen to it at home. And at work, music needs to be selected for guests. The cost of the tour includes the payment for the work of animators. And we were very disappointed with their work.
Service: The staff has partially changed, but the service has remained at a very high level. Those waiters and bartenders who were last year recognized us and welcomed us as welcome guests. I would like to especially highlight the bartender at the Africa bar named Ahmed. He worked with great enthusiasm, we did not have time to enter the bar area, and the drinks were already on our table. Moreover, what exactly we prefer, he remembered from last year. All staff are attentive and polite. The service is unobtrusive and with a smile. They felt like guests, not customers. Thanks!!!!
Of the minuses in the service, I will note the attitude of some employees of a la carte restaurants. Let me remind you that in these restaurants there are dishes and drinks, both on an all-inclusive basis and for a fee. Other guests complained that if they refuse to take drinks for an additional fee, the employees demonstrate their attitude in such a way that they no longer want to have dinner. We only had lunch in a la carte, there were no problems. But, when we once took dinner at Fino, we regretted that we had come. When I refused to take a "special" wine, and asked for what is included in the "all inclusive" concept, the restaurant worker did not hide his anger, and looked at me as if he was launching a menu at me. Not allowed behavior.
There was a free transfer from the hotel in Hurghada to the Mamsha area. You need to register at the reception in advance.
Beach: very large and comfortable, there was always enough space. Beds and mattresses of good quality. There are umbrellas and fences from the wind.
Sea: We snorkeled from the Fort Arabesque hotel to The Grand Makadi pontoon. The coral is different everywhere, from small bumps to a large barrier wall, the palette and architecture is magnificent. There are a lot of amphiprions, butterflies, parrots, groupers, arotrons, heilins, flutes, etc. It is better to see once than to read a hundred.
We were unlucky with the weather, 3 days it was overcast, 1 day light rain. But we were able to walk around the territory of many hotels from north to south.
We took an excursion to the island of Utopia, I liked it very much, I posted a review.
Surprises with the return flight: when we came to the reception on the night of March 14 to check out, we found out that our return flight had been cancelled. We call the guide: there is no information even approximate when they will pick us up. Perhaps they will all be taken to one hotel, perhaps they will be left in “their” hotels. The guide advised to go to the room to sleep. So they did. In the morning they began to look for at least some information. It turned out that our flight took out foreigners who bought tickets from our tour operator so that they could return to Ukraine and leave it before the borders were closed. Thus, thousands of Ukrainian tourists could not fly home on time. We spent the day in anxious expectation of news: we constantly called the guide. There was no information. The hotel did not cut off the bracelets, we used absolutely all the services, restaurants and bars, but the room had to be vacated at 12-00. We sat on sunbeds by the pool. The reception staff were correct, constantly called up the guide, tried to help us. At 17-00 we found out that we were staying at our hotel for an indefinite period, though at the expense of the tour operator. Thus, the tour operator gave us 3 more days of rest. The hotel gradually became empty, fewer and fewer guests came and more and more left. However, all restaurants and bars worked as usual. On March 16, information appeared that the flight was scheduled for tomorrow morning. They took us on March 17 at the agreed time, without delay. I want to thank both the hotel and the tour operator Join Ap for their professionalism, service and correct attitude towards guests.
The overall impression of the rest: the hotel is a little bit not finalized to the ideal. This time, from the significant disadvantages, I will single out an unprofessional animation team, which does not correspond to the high level of the hotel. Unconditional pluses: a huge green area, fabulous architecture, excellent service, huge, clean and comfortable rooms, wonderful staff, live music, a large selection of restaurants and bars, an incomparable sea. There are much more pluses. The hotel has style and soul. I would still come back here.

The guide advised to go to the room to sleep. So they did. In the morning they began to look for at least some information. It turned out that our flight took out foreigners who bought tickets from our tour operator so that they could return to Ukraine and leave it before the borders were closed. Thus, thousands of Ukrainian tourists could not fly home on time. We spent the day in anxious expectation of news: we constantly called the guide. There was no information. The hotel did not cut off the bracelets, we used absolutely all the services, restaurants and bars, but the room had to be vacated at 12-00. We sat on sunbeds by the pool. The reception staff were correct, constantly called up the guide, tried to help us. At 17-00 we found out that we were staying at our hotel for an indefinite period, though at the expense of the tour operator. Thus, the tour operator gave us 3 more days of rest. The hotel gradually became empty, fewer and fewer guests came and more and more left. However, all restaurants and bars worked as usual. On March 16, information appeared that the flight was scheduled for tomorrow morning. They took us on March 17 at the agreed time, without delay. I want to thank both the hotel and the tour operator Join Ap for their professionalism, service and correct attitude towards guests.
The overall impression of the rest: the hotel is a little bit not finalized to the ideal. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a small sea view. I really liked the room. 2 rooms, total area 62 sq. m. In this hotel, the rooms are only of the "family" category, ideally designed for large families. The first room has a large comfortable bed, a large closet, a safe, bedside tables and an old TV. The second room has 2 small beds, sofa, large closet, mini-bar, large TV. There are so many places that I even lost my hat in the room for a couple of days (I found it in my husband's closet). Huge balcony with sun loungers and a table with a beautiful distant view of the sea. Separate bathroom with shower, separate shower behind a curtain, 2 washbasins near the mirror and another one in the toilet. There is a small hair dryer. Toiletries were not provided upon arrival. I don’t know if they forgot to put it in or not supposed to. I called the front desk and they brought it right away. The door of one of the cabinets was not screwed on, after a call to the reception they immediately fixed it. The room is very cozy and comfortable, soundproofing is good.
The cleaner cleaned well, but the room requires a general cleaning: washing curtains, washing windows, wiping dust in hard-to-reach places.
Territory: this is the "trump card" of the hotel. Very green, well-groomed, huge palm trees, mature trees. The architecture is oriental, all around is molding, forging and wood carving. It seems that you are visiting the palace of the Sultan, and not at the hotel. The territory is shared with Sunwing Waterworld Makadi 5 * (first line), all restaurants, bars, swimming pools, water park and entertainment are shared. Favorite bar was near the beach, where they hold shows in the evening. Very cool bartenders, great service. I drank wine and canned beer, the quality is good. The husband tried stronger alcohol, praised. Large selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, beer, juices, fanta, sprite, cola. I especially liked the fact that every evening there is live music in 2 bars: guitar, violin, vocalists. They perform world hits for every taste, except for pop. The audience is dancing. It is very cool!! ! Huge plus for the hotel!
Animation. I love the spectacle after the "bread", so I appreciate the quality shows. The first few days of the show were great: fakir show, oriental dances, dance fusion.
We bought a foam party on the beach for 10 euros per person, we were not interested in foam, we had soap in the room))) but we watched the fire and light show with pleasure. Then the head of the animation team changed, and everything changed for the worse. The humorous show was completely without humor, and the acrobats did not come at all, because the new chef changed the schedule. On 09/27/14 it was possible to take a tour at a discount to any hotel, Waterwold was still expensive for us, hotels with water parks are also a little expensive. And then fell Femeli. I read about it - and realized that this is the same Watervold, only separate buildings on the territory, the same 5 stars, which for some reason are considered a separate hotel). And the price in hryvnia is 5 thousand cheaper. The difference is that in Watervod and Femeli they share a building where the reception is located: through one door - the waterwold itself, where there are water parks, swimming pools and access to the sea, and Femeli - through the opposite door. Calm quiet area, tennis courts, football field, gym, bar near the buildings, children's room, evening restaurants, shops. The bracelet is given exactly the same as in Waterwold, that is, you will not be infringed on anything.

Air conditioners in every room, not new but worked fine. The rooms are also not new, but clean and tidy, large bathroom, separate shower, bath, toilet. On the balcony there are two large armchairs, and the same tiny one for a child. Appreciated))) I really liked to sit on the balcony in the evening and drink rum and cola, and in the morning there is a great view, palm trees rustle, grace). And during the day we were never in the room! Between the sea and the pools there are such soft trestle beds with awnings, where they put the child to sleep, and dozed themselves. Therefore, I don’t understand those who are looking for something to complain about in the rooms, for us the main thing is clean and tidy, and the rest itself is not in the room, after all.
