Hello, dear friends, like-minded people and travelers!
Our 12th vacation in Egypt ended, the 4th in Marsa Alam. I would like to share my impressions, I will try to be objective, although it is difficult in relation to this vacation.
Choosing a hotel: with a very high exchange rate, the price was the decisive factor. Marina Lodge At Port Ghalib 4* has an acceptable offer. Read the reviews, looked at the map. It is clear that one should not have expected an extraordinary reef in the port, however, 2.5 kilometers to the south is the turtle bay of Marsa Mubarak. From the hotel for a reasonable price, excesses were also not expected.
Transfer: Flight Kyiv - Hurghada 4 hours, transfer to the hotel from the airport on a large bus took 3.5 hours. The transverse guide, after looking at the voucher, said that we would have a good rest, due to the fact that the entire bus of 18 people is heading to the Rehana Royal Hotel, and only my husband and I are in the Marina Lodge. The guide did not lie)))

Check-in: We arrived at the hotel during lunch, the reception took into account all the wishes about the room, immediately put on bracelets and sent for lunch.
Number: the room was given on the 3rd floor with a wonderful view of Port Ghalib. The room is decorated in an oriental style, with a hanging chandelier, mosaics and stained glass windows. Dimensions and decoration correspond to 4 *. The room consists of the bedroom itself with two beds pushed together with a small guest area (sofa, table), there is a table, a mirror, a pouffe, a TV, a mini-bar. From the room there is an exit to the "washing" area, on one side of the washbasin there is a shower room behind a curtain, on the other side there is a toilet. Everything is not new, but it worked properly. The door to the toilet is more aesthetic than practical, it does not reach the floor and ceiling. The hood in the toilet is good, but there is no soundproofing, for romantic couples who have not lived together before, it can be a problem)))). Shampoos, shower gel and soap are replenished. There is a dressing room and a balcony with chairs and a table. In general, I would like to say the following about the room: everything is not very new, not very modern, but it is quite acceptable for relaxation. The cleaners did their best, there were no particular complaints about cleaning, they regularly pleased us with masterpieces of towels and bedspreads. The problem was the huge number of mosquitoes in the room, which made a feast on our faces every night. Our fumigator, brought from home, turned out to be absolutely powerless, the mosquitoes refused to die. Slippers were the only effective remedy. 2 times we asked the reception to help us with this problem, but only on the 2nd time the number of mosquitoes decreased by 90 percent.
In general, insects are a real problem of the hotel. Fumigation is carried out 2 times a day, in the morning (at 6-30) and in the evening (after 17-00) the hotel is fumigated with acrid smoke. However, mosquitoes still get into the room, and if you leave your glass of beer unattended on the beach for a minute, then several flies at once try to commit suicide in it.
Hotel and grounds: We have never stayed in such a small hotel before, only 98 rooms. The territory is small, but very green, the plants are well-groomed, the facades of the buildings are painted regularly. There are large and small pools overlooking the sea and yachts, there were enough sunbeds. Opposite the pool is the lobby bar area. The reception overlooks Port Ghalib and the yachts. The hotel is cozy. I would call the views at the hotel the term “all inclusive”: flowers and greenery are everywhere, the azure sea is visible a few meters away, the beautiful architecture of Port Ghalib, in the port they are laid up or swim past yachts (some are simply gorgeous), catamarans and bathyscaphes, above the hotel planes fly regularly (5 km to Marsa Alam airport). Wherever you look, beauty is everywhere.

Meals: on the 2nd day of rest, the chef Hamat met us, he approached us with a question whether we liked everything. After talking, we asked him to show us the kitchen (already had this experience in another hotel). Hamat kindly gave us this opportunity. The kitchen is kept sterile, equipment and products are in place, the staff is professional and everyone is responsible for their area of work. Products are stored in industrial refrigerators, not a single product gave the impression that it was not fresh. I will say in advance that we did not have a single health problem due to nutrition, I even ate ready-made salads with sauces.
Breakfasts are standard: eggs of all kinds, yoghurts, cheeses, cold cuts, vegetables, fruits, milk porridge, sausages, toasts, beans, pastries. For lunch and dinner 1 type of soup, vegetables, side dishes, salads, meat, liver, fish, chicken, pizza, pasta, steamed vegetables, raw vegetables and desserts. Fruits are for breakfast, lunch and dinner: always oranges, grapefruits, 2 types of dates, sometimes melon, tangerines and grapes. For breakfast there is a coffee machine with several kinds of hardware coffee.
Oriental cuisine evenings are held every 3 days, European cuisine on other days. Oriental cuisine is not very suitable for us, so it was not easy to choose something for dinner on oriental days, but we were still not hungry. In general, the cuisine is no frills (we did not hope for them), but the food is healthy, and often there were delicious dishes. I would like to once again say a big thank you to Hamat and all the chefs for their quality work, as well as to thank our wonderful waiter named Abdul Elrahman for his attention to guests, speed of service and sincere friendliness and tact.
Bars: 1 near the lobby and pool and 1 on the beach. The all-inclusive system operates from 11-00 to 23-00. Large selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, good bottled beer, powdered juices, fanta, sprite, cola. No ice cream or packaged juices. The bartenders are great, service is fast, first come first served, very polite and friendly. Once again I want to say thank you to Osama and Ali, and a huge thank you to Ramadan.

Service: the staff is the main treasure of the hotel. All employees are very attentive and friendly, everyone sincerely smiles at you and cheers you up, they show respect and attention to guests. Tipping is not asked for, but if you give, they will be happy. I would like to praise and thank absolutely everyone: cleaners, gardeners, workers, a man who gives out towels, waiters, receptionists, bartenders, cooks, receptionists for the wonderful service and of course the top management for organizing the quality work of the staff.
Animation Entertainment: the hotel has a team of local guys. The animation work fits the concept of this hotel: darts, bocha and pool games are held in the daytime in a fun and unobtrusive way, in the evenings they organize various competitions and shows, once a week a trip to another hotel for a beach party is organized. Once a week an oriental show of very good quality comes: professional dance with skirts, belly dance and African dances.
Guests: the hotel is very fond of divers, after breakfast a yacht moored directly to the hotel (the territory of the diving center) and takes them with equipment to the diving sites, and they return by dinner. The hotel is very calm and designed for an adult European guest (there were many French, Belgians, Dutch and Germans), it is not suitable for lovers of noisy parties and families with children.
Beach: located 400 meters, for a healthy active person, this is not a problem, however, there is a free shuttle bus on schedule. The beach is small, but due to the fact that there are a lot of guests either diving or near the pool, there are always free places. There are fences from the wind, towels are issued both near the pool and on the beach in exchange for cards, the towels are not new, but clean. They built a toilet and shower on the beach (they used to write that they didn’t). There is a small bar open until sunset. Across the bay, you can clearly see Port Ghalib itself and the yachts. Yachts absolutely do not interfere with swimming if you are sailing along the reef, and not in the center of the bay and do not pose a threat. The entrance to the sea is along the coral cover, it is best to go near the buoys behind a large stone.

Sea: The hotel is located right in Potu Ghalib, in front of the beach there are yachts and catamarans. The port itself is a long bay with bridges. There is no storm at all in the bay, and this allows you to swim in any weather. It is along this bay that the reef of the hotel is located. Looking at the map of Port Ghalib, we did not expect anything good from the reef. But in vain! The reef really shocked us with the beauty and diversity of corals and the abundance of the underwater world. The corals are very bright and lively (fan coral, soft coral, porous coral, brain coral, etc. ), visibility is excellent when there is not much plankton. There are a lot of living creatures, especially small colored chromis, swallows, squirrels, soldiers, cardinals, cesium and goldfish. Of the large inhabitants of the coral, we saw: several stingrays - stingrays, surgeons, rhinos, titanium triggerfish, small and giant moray eels, arotrons and hedgehog fish, stone fish, crocodile fish, flocks of blue-spiked rhinos, pseudo-balists, sweet lips, grumblers, flutes, perches, color groupers, schools of mackerel, etc. etc. There are 5 reef turtles on the reef. Aquarium!
Leisure:
1. We walked and took a hotel bus to Port Ghalib. Very beautiful place, walked, ate ice cream. There are many cafes and shops.
2. We swam on the reef of the neighboring Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza hotel (2 km to the south), accidentally met a reef shark with a calf, which quite aggressively chased us away and a green turtle.
3. We went to the Marsa Mubarak Bay (2.5 km to the south), swam with 2 huge green turtles, watched the living creatures on the northern reef, unfortunately we did not meet a dugong.
4. We swam with a guide Olya to the Sataya reef to see the dolphins. We were picked up from the hotel, 2 hours were taken south to the port of Hamata, we still sailed 2 hours on the sea. Then we swam with dolphins on the reef. There were about 70 of them. It was great! We also swam along the reef, looked at the living creatures and the sunken ship.
General impression of the hotel: of course, the hotel is modest and has a number of small drawbacks: insects, outdated equipment, not very varied food, small territory. However, we knew exactly where we were going. And the excellent service, friendly atmosphere and incomparable underwater world completely crossed out all the minor flaws. The hotel left only the warmest memories, we got more than expected. Thank you for the stay "Marina Lodge At Port Ghalib 4 *"!
