I never write reviews, although I travel often and around the world. In Egypt for the third time, drawn to the fabulous Red Sea : ), we rested at the Grand Rotana hotel with a 7-year-old child for the May holidays. I wanted to share my experience of staying at this hotel. I share very briefly; )
I paid attention to him last time, when the bus took tourists to hotels upon arrival in Sharm. The level of the hotel is evidenced by the surrounding area even before the reception: palm trees illuminated in the evening, fountains, amphorae, everything is very well maintained and really beautiful! I read reviews for a long time, and despite some not very forest ones, I decided to try it anyway.
Accommodation: At the reception our guide took me straight to a girl (Egyptian) who could hardly speak Russian and I asked her to speak English.
To be honest, I always try to address the men at the reception and speak only in English, because in my experience, men are more loyal, it is easier to negotiate with them and they usually give good rooms and without extra charges; ) Considering that the choice was made for me, the number was not given in the best place. The premium sea view room (according to the voucher) was placed in building 2, overlooking the sea, but far from the reception. Didn't pay extra and change the number. The room is quite spacious, a large bed, a terrace overlooking the sea, a table, an armchair and a sofa on the terrace. The rooms are not very new, but very decent for Egypt. Not very convenient, a glass wall between the room and the bathroom, at night the bathroom light illuminates part of the room. They clean the rooms normally, I left a tip every other day.
I advise you to take an iron with you, what they bring can hardly be called an iron, my grandmother used to iron it like that; ))) but they brought it quickly and left it with the board for the whole week.
The rooms have bathrobes, slippers, shampoo, shower gel, body cream, hair balm, hand and body soap, hats, cotton pads, etc. - in general, everything that should be in a 5-star hotel.
The TV is large with a flat screen, the air conditioning is quite noisy, but you get used to it with time. On the street, despite the spraying of chemicals, there are still mosquitoes, take mosquito repellent.
The territory of the hotel is sooooo beautiful and well-groomed, the hotel is large, the beach is long, with terraces, there is enough space for everyone. But, our people; ) occupied sunbeds from 6 am, in the morning you go to the sea, and the towels are already on the sun loungers. I witnessed that the Italians threw towels of vacationers who did not come for a long time into the sand and occupied sunbeds. The hotel is mostly Russians, Ukrainians, Italians and locals. The pool is large, there is a heated children's pool, both adults and children sit there. The water in the main pool is refreshing but not cold, at least for me. There is one water slide.
Service at the bar on the beach leaves much to be desired, if you take the all inclusive system, be prepared to get drunk and pour half a glass of something. If you take paid drinks, the attitude is more friendly. In the main restaurant, the waiters are also peculiar, you can wait a long time until they come to you, you had to catch them; ) The administrator at the entrance to the restaurant, unfortunately, I don’t know the name, made a very pleasant impression on me, sorted out all the questions and service problems. I was pleasantly surprised, it is clear that the person loves his work very much and does it with pleasure and pride.
The food, as they wrote in the reviews before me, is monotonous, but everything suited me, there were always several types of meat, fish, several types of side dishes, salads, vegetables, fruits.
An escalator leads to the restaurants and reception. Photoelectric escalator. Turns on as you get closer.
Those who wrote that the escalator is turned off were wrong, it works around the clock.
The hotel has two descents to the sea: a pontoon and a pier, I liked the pontoon more, there were fewer people. The reef is normal, I can’t say that it’s super, but the fish are diverse, especially in the morning. They say that they saw a stingray and a turtle, I did not see it personally. But, I saw two barracudas, half a meter long, swimming 20 cm from me, scary. Given that this fish is aggressive and there are many cases of attacks on people, I decided to sail away.
In the evening, standing on the pier at about 5 pm, when the sun was setting and people were still swimming, I saw something sand-colored in the water, quite large, but despite the purity of the water, I could not understand what it was. There was a lifeguard standing nearby, I asked what it could be, a shark? ? ? ? To which he replied that there are no sharks here.
It's a type of tuna; ) Well, about the fact that there are no sharks, this, of course, made me smile; ) I still don’t know what it was, but all the swimmers remained intact and all their legs and stood there until they waited for those passing by. And already in the company swam to the pier. Now he says, I swim only at the pier and also not for long; ) So, if possible, refrain from evening bathing. God saves the safe!
Animation in the hotel is neither for children nor for adults, in the evenings there are half-hour performances: vocals, folk dances, for small disco. One afternoon a saxophonist was playing at the beach bar - amazing! During the day in the amphitheater, children were shown tricks, in the evening cartoons.
In the evening we drove to the old town, soho, Naama bay.
To sum up: the hotel is excellent, I never stay twice in the same hotel, but I think I will return to this one! ; )
