This year we decided to celebrate my birthday in Egypt. This is not the first time we visit this country, so many cultural features, climatic subtleties, gastronomic nuances, as well as numerous tricks of local traders and guides were familiar to us. It is all the more surprising that the hotel, about which there are not so many fresh reviews, was liked almost from the first day. Ideal location at the very beginning of Naama Bay, a small cozy area, proximity to the beach and the pool area (really two steps: left the building and crossed the road).

The undoubted plus of the hotel is the availability of free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, including the beach. The downside for me personally was the limited choice of food in the main restaurant and its monotony. The food is tasteless. For one meal (lunch or dinner) there is strictly one type of chicken, beef, fish, and the cooking methods practically did not change.

Fruits were cut oranges, grapefruits, melons of one kind, dates, fruit salad. There were no separate apples, no guava, watermelon or pomegranate.

We saw for the first time that lychees were served in a hotel (we bought a kilogram home as an exotic). Pretty tasty pancakes, with and without filling. Pastries and sweets, as usual in Egypt, are very tasty and in great variety. Very tasty yogurt for breakfast, however, only one kind. For lunch and dinner, a variety of soups. All dishes in the main restaurant are new, there is always enough cutlery for everyone, there are practically no queues.

All hotel rooms are located in one five-story building. Without any extra charge, we were settled on the first floor in a room from which there was access to a common terrace with a large green area (the so-called Garden View). In the center of this green zone there is a stage where evening animation takes place: the constant Kids Disco and some show for adults.
The range of these shows is standard for Egypt and does not change from week to week. Anyone who has been to at least one hotel has seen them all. A nice bonus was the opportunity to watch the show, sitting on a chair near the room.

The hotel's beach is quite spacious, there are enough sunbeds for everyone. The entrance to the sea is sand, special shoes are not needed. There is no own pontoon. To a normal depth, you need to go from the shore about a hundred meters. At high tide, you walk about waist-deep, at low tide, ankle-deep. In the morning there was a wind on the beach and annoying flies that cannot be driven off.

We spent the birthday itself on a yacht, having bought a voyage called “Ras Mohammed and the White Island Reserve” the day before in one of the Naama Bay excursion shops. In winter, the so-called Island is practically hidden under water, so its area is minimal. From the yacht it looks like a narrow strip of white sand in the middle of the sea.
The island itself is very beautiful and there are a lot of photos for instagram. The purest turquoise water (really like in the Maldives) and the surrounding views make this place just amazing!

In the evening of the same day, we visited the only a la carte restaurant in the hotel by appointment. The wind was so strong that the waiter could not light a candle on my birthday cake. The cake itself was already the last change of dishes, so it did not arouse much enthusiasm. I did try a small piece. Completely dry biscuit, thickly smeared with tasteless cream. The main dish of the evening was meat (chicken and liver cut into large pieces) served on a small grill with smoldering coals. The meat is completely dry and insipid, like a sole, it is simply impossible to eat. Although then we met several couples who also went to the same restaurant. The men said they liked the meat. Meat is like meat. I'm such a picky one.
My verdict: it's better not to go to the restaurant, not to waste time. However, it should be noted that the service was quite up to the mark, although there were only two attendants. Quality service in the main restaurant. Room service is by no means good. There is no cleaning as such. The supply of detergents is replenished daily and figures from towels are spinning. Sometimes the trash gets thrown out. No glass surfaces are wiped in principle.

Some minor disadvantages of the hotel could not overshadow such a short but wonderful stay. It is quite rare to come across hotels that you want to return to. Marina Sharm is one of them.
