We rested at the Royal Grand Sharm Hotel from September 25 to October 5.2016. We went at a huge discount, and in the end it turned out that the price-quality ratio is very good. Before the trip, of course, we read all the reviews, so we were ready for all the nuances.
I emphasize that we were not in the high season, so many seasonal problems were absent. I will turn to this next.
Let's start with the arrival. Operator - AnexTour. All without surprises: they met, drove quickly (only tourists were taken to the Iberotel along the way). Dollars were changed at the airport (8.5 pounds per dollar). Traders in the hotel and on the street have a higher rate (10.11, 12 pounds), but the risks, of course, are present. The hotel has an ATM for exchange.

The check-in went quickly, without crowding and queues. Maybe because it's not in season. Everything is well organized. We did not see bad rooms - all with some kind of view of beautiful trees and the obligatory edge of the sea. No one extorted money for the best settlement, but they were happy with a souvenir in the form of a chocolate bar / pack of cigarettes / 10 pounds. Learn a couple of words in Arabic, English, smile - it definitely helps! Do they already have a good command of the minimum set of Ukrainian?
The main composition of vacationers: Ukrainians, large Arab families, Belarusians, several pairs of Europeans.
Room (411) is huge, clean, large terrace with chairs and a table. Huge bed, sofa, bedside tables, table, cabinets. Sockets 3-4, but we took a tee - it did not interfere. TV set with several Ukrainian and ros. channels. The bathroom is large, there were no problems with towels, water and accessories. Hairdryer, fridge. There is no kettle and iron in the room - they say they give it out on request, but we did not try. Cleaned well, towels changed. Everything is invisible. Sometimes we left tips, but I don't think it affected anything.
There is no free Internet - we bought a card in Vodafone near Il Mercato for 10 dollars. for the Internet and conversations (there are packages cheaper and more expensive) - I had enough for 10 days, and there was still more. To buy you need a passport and pounds.
Be sure to take mosquito repellent (fumigator and spray or ointment) with you. There were not very many of them in the room, but on the street in the evening they gnawed very severely. And vilely: you don’t feel anything, and in the morning - all your legs are bitten and itchy?

The territory of the hotel is large enough, well-groomed. There are a lot of sunbeds - no one pushed us, didn’t occupy us in advance, but it seems to me that if the hotel was 100% full, there would not be enough space, and it was generally impossible to get on the pontoon. The pontoon is short (about 25 m, which is very good), but it is alone and needs to be repaired. If there is a wave, it’s scary to go there, it staggers. And the wave was normal in the mornings in September. And since October 1, the sea has calmed down. Swimming in the sea is not enough for such a large hotel. For swimming, not at all. The distance from the reef to the buoys is 5 m, the reef is a wall, immediately the depth is 15 meters. Divers, snorkelers, Arabs, grandmothers, children, water sports... After 30 meters to the left - the pontoon of the neighboring hotel. To the right there is more space, but there are also enough people. Tourists also walked and splashed in shallow water - but that's not it! And to say that the water world is very rich and diverse is not. Maybe it's not the season either?
Food, of course, have seen better. Well, they don't know how to cook like us! But the choice is huge, no one left hungry, as far as we saw. Muesli, yoghurts, eggs (fried, boiled), cold cuts (cheese, sausages, cheese), pasta, potatoes, rice, vegetables (raw and baked), olives/black olives, soups, stewed beef, chicken, fish, pizza, pastries , ice cream, tea / coffee / milk, fruits (dates, grapes, guava, persimmon are good, but melon is not very good). In the evening there is a grill on the street, there is a corner of oriental cuisine. They gave crabs and mussels several times - and the cook shamelessly spoiled them? a la carte (only allowed once) - delicious. Excellent coffee in machines in all bars (from 10 o'clock). There are also delicious juices from packages (pineapple, guava, mango, orange). A lot has been said about Egyptian alcohol... Beer here - good, brandy in coffee - also good, gin and rum in cocktails, I also quite even liked it?
With drinking water - just a great system! In all bars you can take bottled cold water without restrictions.
Take your medicines with you. The hotel has a good pharmacy, but all medicines are expensive and not like ours. We didn’t have enough baking soda (they don’t use it at the hotel, they don’t use it in stores, and heartburn was serious a couple of times).
Since this is not the first time in Egypt, we took the tour on the street. The operator's price is almost 2 times higher. Traveled to Israel. Both buses traveled together, from both buses several people were detained at the border for checks all night, from both buses several people were not allowed through, from both buses several people remained in Israel. Everyone is taken to lured expensive shops (everything can be bought much cheaper on the street near the Temples: both icons and souvenirs). I liked the tour very much. Temples, the Dead Sea… We need to go there a little longer and thoroughly consider everything!

Of course, we walked along Il Mercato (5 minutes walk from the hotel). It is deserted there compared to what it was 3 years ago - already scary. Many shops and restaurants are closed. But, on the other hand, the prices in the shops nearby are simply ridiculous for everything. The struggle for the buyer is tough - they lure, invite, give gifts, bargain... We bought mangoes from a Bedouin - tasty and healthy, we got tea home from a shop nearby. Both pounds and dollars are accepted everywhere.
There are no minibuses on the road near the hotel - you have to go through all of Il Mercato for about 30 minutes, and then even to the crossroads... To the Old Town by taxi from the highway - 20 pounds (it will be more expensive to take a taxi from the hotel). Or 45 minutes walk. There are also few tourists there, sellers are bargaining very well. If you don't want it, buy it! Wallets, handbags, sneakers, T-shirts, towels, tunics… From $2. A very beautiful mosque is being built there.
We went to the Orthodox Church of All Saints (or the Coptic Church - kinissa, as they call it). Opened a couple of years ago. We got from the hotel to the road, waved our hand - $ 3 for a taxi. It is possible by minibus (they say), but to the minibus, then from the minibus - long and inefficient. The temple has very beautiful stained-glass windows and murals. The attendant gave us a short tour. Not far from the Temple there is a Catholic church, several mosques, including a new one, they say: the most beautiful. We got from the Temple to the highway, stopped a blue and white minibus and took it to the Old City for 1.5 pounds per person.
Always take water from the hotel with you on walks - you want to drink, but buy in vain - why if you have your own?
The hotel has a good spa and beauty salon. Prices and conditions are discussed. We agreed on a massage - not an hour for 25 dollars, but 3 times for 30 minutes for 10 dollars. on the beach, a mask as a gift. Before that, 2 times we were given 5 minutes each. massage as advertising.
The sun left the beach at 5 o'clock. So before dinner you can take a walk, by 8 o'clock come back to eat and go to the animation.

When I read reviews about this hotel, I wondered why so much was written about the animation team. I understood upon arrival. These lighter guys work like clockwork from 10 am to 2 am. Exercise, volleyball, darts, water aerobics, yoga, golf... Sociable, cheerful, energetic Antonio, Yana, Izzy, Sveta! I thank them very much for their work and friendly attitude towards tourists. And the daily evening shows!! ! Comparable to "1001 nights": and dance with skirts, and belly dance, and dances of the peoples of the world, and competitions. Then for those who wish - a disco.
The girls with Guest Relations left a great impression. They sign up for a restaurant, they come to them with all questions: something doesn’t work, wake me up, someone has closed on the balcony (by the way, please note: you can’t open the balcony from the outside - don’t lock yourself there if you are alone in the room).
The hotel has a lost and found office on the 5th floor. I lost my expensive cap, after 2-3 days I discovered it was missing. Thought someone slammed. Just in case, I went there - there, they returned it! Thank them.
Indeed, they cut off the bracelets at 12:00 on the day of departure. But in the main restaurant you can eat and drink until the end of lunch (if you had a late arrival).
Here is a detailed description of recent events. I generally liked it. Many also like it, and so much so that they come to this hotel 5.10 or more times. They have bracelets of a different color, some benefits, a separate restaurant, an honor roll with their last name and trees in their honor. And I love discovering new places. But I'm glad I discovered Royal Grand Sharm.
