About booking a hotel. . .
Dreamed of the Canaries for a long time. At the beginning of summer, we saw a reasonable price for a vacation in August at the HOVIMA hotel chain and decided to take a chance with booking. Tried to book Hovima Santa Maria through Join Up, booking denied with an offer to consider Hovima Atlantis or Hovima Jardin Caleta. After hesitating, they agreed to Atlantis. All the same, the location in the center of civilization. There were 2 months left before the holidays. Relaxing, we began to make plans. After 2 weeks Join Up canceled our flight to Tenerife (and not only. . . ). Urgently tried to rebook through TPG. Hovima Atlantis no longer accepted, only Hovima Jardin Caleta remained for consideration. Agreed, the hotel confirmed. Realizing that we will not live in the center and, having read reviews on the rest, we decided that we would rent a car. We are a family of 3 and bus fares would cost more than renting a car for a week. The car was ordered immediately from the company's home, confirmation was also received. They began to read the site "Tenerife in Russian", print out the necessary information, maps, routes. A week before the rest, there was a feeling that we knew the whole island by heart. 3 days before departure, TPG sends a letter of apology to our tour operator, due to the bankruptcy of one of the hosts and their late payment to the Hovima Jardin Caleta hotel, the hotel cannot accept us for the entire period of our holiday. Therefore, they offer to consider the option of "another hotel" for a week, followed by relocation for 4 days in Jardin Caleta, or they are ready to fully refund our money. Oh how!! ! Tarpaulin boot on a crystal dream!! ! It happens!! ! Through the incredible efforts of our tour operator Ekaterina "Vivanta Travel" and our tantrums, we received an alternative option for the Ponderosa apart-hotel in the center of Las Americas for 7 days, followed by relocation to the Hovima Jardin Caleta hotel for 4 days in the fishing village of La Caleta. This turned out to be an interesting, non-standard, combi-tour.
After a week spent in Ponderosa (review on it is in the appropriate section), we moved to La Caleta.

We arrived, parked and immediately went to Caleta beach to wait for check-in (check-in at 14.00 according to the rules). The beach was amazing!! ! This is where you can feel the power of the ocean!! ! There are no breakwaters. There are no stones at the entrance, there are small pebbles. But they are not particularly annoying when entering the water. Only when the ocean is rough, the wave can hit these pebbles on the legs. I tested it myself. So with a yellow flag, I do not advise you to stand in the water on the shore. Traumatic. But how beautifully the ocean rolls on the sand !! ! Long waves. Even surfers try to catch them in this place. The sand is dark when it gets wet it turns black. The biggest advantage of this beach is that it is right next to the hotel. You can run to the room without tension if necessary. After lunch, paragliders land on this beach. The village itself is essentially a remote area. The hotel seemed to us more comfortable than Ponderosa. Its concept is very similar to the Turkish-Egyptian hotels. Animation, swimming pools, restaurant, bars, mini-disco in the evenings. Hotel for a typical family holiday. Young people can be bored here. But the level of the hotel is higher than the previous Ponderosa, you can feel it right away.
At 14.00 we were told the good news “the apartments are ready” and we settled in. Number A357 - SUPER!! ! True, we had a superior 2 + 1 booked. View of the ocean and Las Americas. The apartments are equipped like in Turkish five-star hotels, only with a kitchen. There is wi-fi, TV is free. Everything is perfect, very comfortable. There is enough of everything everywhere, even more than. The only small drawback is that there is no growth mirror. And everything is so great. In the room, unlike Ponderosa, there is a hairdryer, air conditioning, consumables are in dispensers. The renovation is fresh, the beds are new, the pillows are clean (they were dusty in Ponderosa). There is a toaster. On the balcony there is a fabric canopy from the sun (extreme floor) on the control panel. Convenient clothes dryer. Down the hallway to the left of our room was a jacuzzi on the rooftop. Downstairs, the pool is full of vacationers, noisy, animation, and here, upstairs in the jacuzzi, several families are quiet, calm, peaceful. Around the jacuzzi are tubs with ornamental bushes, palm trees, stunning views of the ocean and the coast. There is another jacuzzi in the other wing of the hotel, but it is 16+. There is a bar and it is larger than the jacuzzi and the area with sun loungers. What else pleased JARDIN CALETTA was the presence of sun umbrellas!! ! The elevators are brand new, cool, touch buttons, faster than in Ponderosa. True, in Ponderosa there are 12 floors and the elevators, although tired, are OTIS, and here is Schnider. Meals are many times greater than the variety of Ponderosa, but all drinks for dinner are chargeable! Including cola, fanta, sprite. Dinners are themed.
The "fishing village" of La Caleta in appearance was not at all what I imagined it to be. Rather, a resort village with continuous apartments, hotels. Each courtyard has its own small pool. The paths are perfectly smooth and clean. The houses are as colorful as everywhere else, painted in light or white colors, tiled roofs. From the roof of our hotel, you could see almost the entire village. It is not big and very comfortable. Apartments in it for every taste and every style. Nearby Flamingo Resort apartments are like from Hollywood movies. I've never seen anything like it. Real deluxe conditions for relaxation. Pathetic and pretentious. Everything is done in high-tech style, smooth shapes, display windows, not standard sun loungers. Even your own spyglass on the balcony. In the village there are less luxurious, but more comfortable, landscaped courtyards with bougainvillea bushes, oleander houses with tiled roofs. In general, there are no fishing nets on the shore, gray, rickety houses in the village. In reality, everything turned out to be very comfortable and beautiful! The atmosphere in the village is very calm, conducive to a quiet family vacation. Not at all like in Las Americas, a solid mover and parties. I haven't decided yet where I like it more. But it's definitely different here.
In La Caleta, I would definitely recommend vacationers to rent a car. The nearest Mercadonna is 5 km away. The nearby Hyper Dino is expensive and has a poor assortment. The place here is for a very relaxing holiday.
