From August 27 to September 5 this year, my wife and I vacationed in Greece on the Cretan island in the town of Hersonissos. We chose this place after being seduced by advertising on the Internet: “Graikijos sala, ? kuri? keliautojai sugr? ? ta ne kart? – vilioja kri? toliniu vandeniu ir nat? raliais gamtos stebuklais“ (Greek island, to which travelers return more than once because of the crystal water and natural wonders of nature). For a 10-day holiday we chose the Casa Orama Boutique Hotel. However, after a ten-day “vacation” here, we very much doubt that we will want to come back here again.
The name of the hotel. Let's start evaluating the hotel with its name. We were surprised that when we initially chose it, it was called Manos Maria hotel. However, upon arrival here it turned out that its name had changed to Casa Orama Boutique. We asked the neighbors why this was so, they gave us such a stunning answer: “Probably because there were a lot of negative reviews about it. ”
But life in this hotel showed that the name change changed little.
Let's start with the room - small, but quite cozy. Cleaned almost every day, linen was changed every three days. True, here's the problem - the window, or rather the balcony door (there were no windows in the room) overlooked the nearby street. Therefore, the roar and noise of passing motorcycles, cars and tourist buses kept us awake until late at night and early in the morning. After our urgent request, on the third day they changed our room to another one with a window/balcony door facing the courtyard. But here another problem appeared - air conditioning. He worked constantly - both day and night! Even with the door/window open! And it was impossible to turn it off - the remote control didn’t work! The only way out was to turn off the electricity in the room using a key card. But since the air temperature was plus 33 - 35 degrees, soon there was nothing to breathe in the room and we had to open the balcony door.
And then a flock of mosquitoes took over for us, so in the morning we looked like spotted leopards from bites. Information about this did not give anything to the registry - they promised to send a specialist, but they did not send it until the end of the “rest”.
Nutrition. Although the hotel called itself 4-star, we hoped for better. However, all ten days the same monotonous food was served for breakfast - a boiled egg, thinly sliced ham and short sausages. And instead of butter - margarine. All 10 days! True, it would be a sin to scold the administration for this, since the food was not prepared on site, it was simply brought from another place, and in the dining room (which for some reason they call a restaurant) they only heated it up. It is surprising that in the south - in Greece they did not produce any other southern fruits and berries, except apples, watermelon, melons, bananas and grapes.
True, the hotel administration, apparently wanting to increase the rating, kept a buffet in the dining room with decanters of white and red wine, and even chacha (grape vodka! ). And next to the coffee machine there was a tap - a beer pump. But all these shortcomings were outweighed by the wonderful staff of the “restaurant” - sweet, helpful and smiling Elena, Nika and Yulia.
Beach and sea. Although the hotel was located close to the sea (about 50 - 100 meters), there were other problems with the beach (more precisely, the beaches that extended from the hotels on the seashore). Firstly, the entire sea coast near these beaches is strewn with ridges of large stones and boulders that impede passage into the sea. When looking for a gap between these stones, you risk slipping and spraining your leg.
Well, that's not so bad. The bigger problem is pipes for draining some kind of water (hopefully not sewage) from almost every hotel in the sea. Just look:
Well, another problem with swimming in the sea is the attack of predatory fish on swimmers.
They grabbed my legs painfully a couple of times and I jumped out onto the shore. Nearby, another senior also complained to me that he was also attacked by biting fish. I couldn’t believe it, but then, while sailing on a yacht at sea, I also became convinced of it. The captain of the ship anchored in the sea not far from the shore and asked those who wanted to jump from the ship into the sea to swim and wait a little. He brought a loaf of white bread, shredded it and threw it into the sea. The water instantly boiled from a large number of ardent hungry fish that grabbed pieces of the loaf. And only when the water calmed down did everyone bend down into the sea to swim fearlessly. It was only later that I read on the Internet that because of the very warm water, such aggressive fish appeared in the Mediterranean Sea. Experts have warned that high water temperatures in the Mediterranean could be to blame for the rise in attacks. Warm water accelerated the metabolism of these creatures, increasing their appetite and causing them to seek out more food.
