The hotel is designed in a traditional Greek style, offers excellent cuisine, bright, comfortable rooms and professional service from friendly staff. Green well-groomed area and the beach near the hotel contribute to a good rest. The hotel consists of three buildings (main building has 4 floors). A complete renovation took place in 2008. The hotel is a solid three points out of five - the food is varied, but some dishes are clearly not successful for the chef; the all-inclusive at the bar does not include the most popular drinks and cocktails; the quality of room cleaning depends solely on the amount of tips left, and the "playground" declared in the description of the hotel is only one old, old slide. … More ▾ The hotel is a solid three points out of five - the food is varied, but some dishes are clearly not successful for the chef; the all-inclusive at the bar does not include the most popular drinks and cocktails; the quality of room cleaning depends solely on the amount of tips left, and the "playground" declared in the description of the hotel is only one old, old slide. But the friendliness and friendliness of the hotel staff, proximity to the sea and a large good pool, coupled with an extremely affordable price, allow us to recommend this hotel to travelers who want to get a good level of service for a reasonable price.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of September 2017. The ticket was already bought at the last moment, so there were no more places in those hotels that I liked, I had to agree to this one in the village of Ammoudara. The ticket was taken according to the All inclusive system. Then they had the main building and apartments, which were on the outskirts. For some reason they settled us in the apartments. The building is not new, a very simple room, but 2 rooms, so we were not indignant (there were three of us). The first room has a single bed and a piece of kitchen with an oven, el. stove and sink. Everything is splattered with old grease. We didn't even get there. The bathroom didn't shine either. Old tiles and plumbing. The bedroom has a double bed, a chest of drawers with a mirror, instead of a closet there is a small niche in the wall with hangers, white walls. Very basic room without any frills. Balcony. Cleaning was carried out daily, there were no complaints about this. There is a swimming pool and a small garden on the territory.
The food is normal, better than in Turkey and Egypt, even in 5-stars where All inclusive. I won’t say that it’s chic, but I like Greek cuisine more. There was ice cream and desserts. The wine is quite decent, unlike Turkey and Egypt. Cocktails are okay too. In the pool bar only in plastic cups, in the lobby bar - in glass.
Beach towels were given for a deposit of 5 euros like. Hotels in Greece usually do not have beaches, the beaches are municipal and you have to pay for sunbeds. The nearest beach was 2-3 minutes walk, we only went there. We occupied 3 sunbeds, a beach worker approached us and said that we didn’t have to pay for sunbeds, just take drinks from him at the bar. Just great! I took myself coffee for 1.5 euros, my daughter juice 2-3 euros, my husband took beer for 3 euros. So it's quite normal. Yes, there are very strong winds in Crete, in 30-degree heat it can be cold because of the wind, so they give fences on the beach from the wind, which is very helpful. The sea is clean, transparent, but a little cool, perhaps due to the fact that rivers flow nearby, the beach is sandy and pebbly. There are not many people on the beach, there were always free places.
The village of Ammoudara itself is small, there is nothing there, except for a few hotels and the private sector. There is no embankment, nowhere to go. Just a relaxing beach holiday. A couple of grocery stores, cafes, souvenir shops, gas stations and that's it. Just one street. Yes, more excursions and car rental. We didn't take a car, sorry. But my husband didn't want to. We took one full-day excursion with a visit to the city of Agios Nikolaos, a walk and lunch on a ship, a visit to a beautiful white sand beach on some island, there is incredibly clean, azure water, and most importantly, warm. Then we visited the island-fortress of Spinalonga, on the island there was a fortress and fortifications to protect the bay and the bay. And from 1903 to 1955 there was a leper colony for patients with leprosy. I liked the tour, they didn’t take it at the hotel, but at a street agency (like Ivan Susanin, but I’m not sure).
The overall impression of the trip is good, I like Greece, the sea, old cities, I like their cuisine. Would you still go? To Ammoudara and Marilena - definitely not, to other places in Greece - yes!

We flew from Kyiv on a UIA charter. The flight was delayed by almost 3 hours. The people began to resent, they gave the plane. -))
We arrived and were well received. We got to Amoudara on a large and comfortable bus. Since the plane was zadarzhan, then we arrived with a delay of 3 hours. So we arrived just in time for dinner. For lunch we got to the "hat analysis". They ate from what "God sent", but they ate normally. Settled in a nice clean, with good furniture, plumbing and renovated room. The room is not big, but cozy. The linen is tolerable, the pillows are made of synthetic winterizer, but with bumps, although without stains (checked). The room has a large mirror, TV, telephone (which we did not use) and individual air conditioning. View from the window to the pool and the bar. In which there were visitors until one or even two in the morning. Which, of course, did not add silence at night. -)) Although the bar closed at 12. But people still sat and talked. Therefore, there were problems with sleep. And during the day, shrill and noisy children swam in the pool, so there were also problems with sleep during the day-)) But you can close the balcony and turn on the air conditioning. Not a problem. The hotel has a view from the window and the old hay of another hotel, it's quiet there. Krntingent - youth (poor students), pensioners: Bulgarians, Poles, Germans, French, Russians, some Ukrainians.
Food: ok for 3*. lunch: several types of meat, fish, salads, vegetables, moussaka, etc. wine in a jug to choose from: red. white, pink, (natural) Breakfast is poor (but for us it was more than) There was yogurt and breakfast cereals, eggs in all forms, some muffins. Fruits - watermelon, grapes, melon - have always been.
Dinner is also normal, almost like lunch. There are minuses - there are few dishes and staff, with small spoons it is also stressful. Dirty dishes were hardly cleaned. Lunch and dinner - queue in front of the dining room. There are fewer tables than people. At the entrance, a plump Greek girl distributed tables and kept order - super. Always friendly and smiling. The rest of the staff is rude and rude. Excursions - you can take at the hotel, it's expensive there. The best option is to rent a car on any tour. agency. The cost is from 25 to 50 euros per day. You can take 3 days or more. We took a car with a driver to share with another family. Paid 60 euros per person. Only 240 euros per car (at the Russian Lena, to the right in the travel agency). A new jeep, a Moldovan driver - speaks good Russian. Great person and driver. We saw: 2 monasteries, a beautiful gorge, a turtle lake, a hippie town, the town of Remeni, drinking coffee and shopping in the village, swimming in the Libyan Sea. (By the way, "Mediterranean" is always stormy, although warm. ) The trip took a day. We took it on the road at the hotel - it's dry. rations. (Weak). I WANT TO SAY ABOUT THE ANIMATION AND THE BEACH AT THE HOTEL - DO NOT WAIT FOR HER AT THE OFFICE! IT'S NOT THERE AT ALL. IN THE EVENINGS - ENTERTAIN YOURSELF!! ! THE HOTEL DOES NOT HAVE ITS BEACH. FALSE THAT ALL BEACHES IN GREECE ARE MANICIPAL. ALL FOR SOMEONE OF THE HOTELS ARE ASSIGNED. At first we were not careful to get to the beach of the Agapi Beach hotel. We were asked very insistently to leave or pay 5 euros per person. We went to another beach, where there was a cafe and we paid only for a drink. Although water for 0.40 euros, even fresh delicious for 3 euros. And lie down all day. (They come up and offer drinks themselves. ) WISH FOR HOTEL MANAGERS TO AGREE WITH THE ADMINISTRATION OF OTHER BEACHES, SO that TOURISTS FROM "MARILENA" DO NOT SHIELD ON THE BEACHES AS FROM PEOPLE OF THE THIRD CLASS. in other countries, hotels with a 2nd line like here and there are no problems. ) Also - learn English, who does not know, there may be problems. They speak Greek and broken English. Russian is just beginning to be taught. Staff, ) except for the distributor girl in a canteen that knows at least a few words) no one knows and does not understand. I wish you a good rest and I hope that I did not tire you and my review was useful to you! in 3 * last year, there is a triple like Agapi Beach. (The area is very similar, the room was also gorgeous).

In Greece rested for the first time, preferred Turkey. They counted on a full-fledged four, but got a three. Disadvantages: second line with an active road in front of the entrance, the Greeks are not in the habit of giving way to pedestrians, especially motorcycle riders; the nearest beach belongs to the Agapi Beach hotel, its employees collect 5 euros for a sunbed and 5 euros for an umbrella from strangers, our people don’t want to pay, so they jump up from the sunbeds when security approaches and lie down after they leave, this invigorates both of them, but it’s annoying, while not allowed to use the shower and booths. … More ▾ In Greece rested for the first time, preferred Turkey. After dinner, the bedridden people are left alone. If you walk 10 minutes to the left, you will find a gold beach, there are the same sunbeds, there is a shower and a changing room at the beach tavern, it is more loyal here, you pay voluntarily, and if you buy fresh juice or beer, then lie down and sunbathe. The sea is wonderful but it was stormy all 10 days, of course we jumped on the waves, but you can’t relax with small children, you still come across sea urchins, not often, but it’s better not to risk it and buy swimming shoes. Pros: the hotel is clean, they clean every day, the linen was changed often, the food is tasty and quite varied (no frills), the husband and son were never hungry. There is no entertainment in the hotel itself, and in the village there are only shops and taverns along the road, there are no other sights. Suitable for those who like to travel on their own (there are car rentals) Or on excursions. That's probably all the impressions, and also a very weak Wi-Fi in the hotel, caught at the reception for an hour, appeared for a short time and disappeared again. For a good stay in this hotel, take optimism and a sense of humor with you, nature will add the rest. Have a nice rest!

After lunch we went to Heraklion by taxi or by trolleybus, walked until the evening. Do not buy an excursion to Knossos to the labyrinth of the minotaur, you can get there yourself and not pay that kind of money. With soundproofing, of course, problems, woke up early from noise and walking. And so everything went cool, make your own holiday and do not get hung up on trifles !!! !

I didn’t want to tell my husband let’s change it at all, but he reassured me and said why go, let’s have a rest, maybe the reviews are simply not correct. ok let's start.
flight from Perm is 4-5 hours. airlines (OREAIR) Orenburg shit I say right away the stewarts are rude to smoke electronic cigarettes you can’t drink you can’t, you even know to go to the toilet and then by permission. ok, we swore calmed down, flew in at night in five seven minutes, they cleared the entire plane at customs (for comparison, in Perm, when we flew back at customs, it took us a very long time to clear it for about an hour and a half), the Greeks were kind and friendly. they drove everything, explained there was no turmoil, only my husband and I laughed, Russian people can only run like that, as if I don’t have time to push, my husband and I stood all calmly, everything was quiet. we came to look yes by the road but nice and nice pool clean beautiful bar too. the hall is clean and bright pleasant impressions. settled quickly while smoking a cigarette everything is ready. We went into the room clean, bright, nice and comfortable. the view was on the pool sea mountains and of course another hotel. yes, we were upset the mini bar is just a small refrigerator and there will be no drinks there, don’t wait right away I say. in the morning we got up and went to have lunch (at the reception they gave a schedule of what, where and when) the food there is delicious, even I would say it’s just not worth taking everything and just a little bit then it won’t seem monotonous, but their sausage is not very to your taste, but in Greece, in principle it's hard with this. there are two bars, the first one is by the pool, Katarina works there, she is very cool, she speaks fluent English with her and you can have fun and cry, she works from 10 am to 5.30, then a lobby bar opens, Marianna works there, she’s scum, I just tell the truth and with a not happy face and just don’t . there is no animation in the hotel, but if you just sit in the bar you can meet different people and everything is just wonderful, we yelled there and there were a lot of them with the French and with the Germans you just sat and said who the Russians went to sit and such a crowd of five seven people will definitely come up . prices in taverns are normal for a resort town, don't think that everything is cheap there. in taverns, everyone is very friendly and always brings fruit and crayfish (Greek grape vodka) as a gift at the end.
about excursions at the hotel, do not take a single excursion cheaper, it is more interesting to go yourself. Many people rented cars. we were afraid of the road, we don’t know the navigator, we don’t like it, there are a lot of mopeds to ride, we drove, laughed, had fun. go to santorini very cool. Yes, with the clubs there is a bit tight if they are not in the hotel. but you understand, they are people not to hang out with them, it’s not customary, they sit at a table full of food and sit, drink and chat. in fact, the sea is class, yes, we don’t have sunbeds on the beach, but firstly, the sand is useful, and if you don’t like sand, you don’t wash your legs, you sit in the hotel, the sea is not for you; Beach. there are beds.
in general, everything is good there, clean, nice, light and cozy. we liked. go, the main thing to remember is that if you really want to relax, then relax and don’t bother...

Quite nice overall, although a 4 star Greek hotel (as Marilena says on most sites) is comparable to a 2 star Northern European hotel. Two years earlier we were vacationing in Scandinavia, moving every day, staying in different 2-3 star hotels, the service was better, to be honest. But the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea and Greek soulfulness redeem a lot.
About the beach. We didn't know where he was at all. We came to a civilized beach somewhere behind Agapi Beach (the hotel is opposite Marilena across the road). We were immediately demanded 5 euros for each of the two sunbeds, plus 5 euros for an umbrella. We asked where the Marilena beach was, they vaguely waved our hand somewhere to the left, but there was only a narrow strip of dirty sand along the fence, where our compatriots were roasting on mats in the sun. We turned around and went to our friends on a beautiful beach next to a very modest Armonia hotel, a 15-minute walk from Marilena. We stayed there all the time of the holiday. No one demanded money from us there either for sunbeds or umbrellas, although it was stated that you had to pay for both.
About food. I read a lot of reviews before the trip, most complained about the monotony of the dishes. Alas, there is such a problem. Especially dull at breakfast: you can list the entire menu with your eyes closed, without even going into the dining room. At lunch, the choice of dishes is better, and at dinners, sometimes the chef performs a sacred service right in front of everyone - you should approach him with a plate. The Greeks cook lamb especially amazingly. Rarely is pork, almost every day - fish (though not very tasty). But there is no beef at all: on rocky Crete, there is nowhere for cows to graze, and imported beef, apparently, is too expensive.
Tea and other drinks are a separate issue. For those who cannot imagine their daily life without a cup of tea, I advise you to bring it with you. Preferably with a kettle or kettle. For in Greece (not only in Marilene) tea is drunk only in the morning. And the choice is small: tiny bags of some kind of gray disgusting dust disguised as black tea, or relatively normal chamomile tea. This is for breakfast. During lunches and dinners, baskets with tea bags and titanium with boiling water are closed, but even if you get to them, the water usually cools down in the morning. Boiling water again does not occur to anyone. As well as turn on the coolers (there are four of them - two in the dining room, one in the lobby near the bar, one in the pool bar). So cold water - at least get drunk, but with hot water - it's problematic. In connection with the above, you simply experience tantalum flour: desserts, as a rule, are varied and very tasty, but you want to drink sweets with hot tea, and not with sour wine, sweet soda or cold water. After a few days, we completely abandoned desserts and switched to fruits. By the way, if you still eat sweets, be sure to try Cretan honey, it has a very special taste.
More about drinks. All inclusive assumes that you can come up for drinks as much as you like at any time. But if you expect to get enough of free alcohol - do not flatter yourself: strong drinks are mercilessly diluted. They manage to do the same even with soda. Only local drinks are relatively normal in taste: wine (dry), beer, crayfish (grape vodka) and ouzo. About ouzo, we tried for a long time to find out what kind of thermonuclear drink with a strength of 46 degrees. The Greeks assured us that it was an aperitif. We tried - and really an aperitif! It has such a strong anise flavor that it's hard to take more than three sips at a time. But it's worth it!
About the contingent. Approximately half of the hotel's population are Russians, slightly less than Ukrainians (two youth groups of Ukrainian boys and girls changed during our time, who lit not like a child, so during their stay I would not call the hotel quiet). Settle in the hotel and other Slavs, as well as the Germans. The Greeks, by the way, strongly dislike the Germans. For many reasons, from the time of the Second World War to Angela Merkel's statements about Greek lazy people who do not want to work, but still want to stay in the European Union. In general, the Greeks blame the Germans for all their troubles, including the crisis.
About staff and service. Everyone is very nice and kind, they speak a funny mixture of English and Greek with a little Russian interspersed (they try! : )) But at the same time they don’t go out of their way in service. In our room (the room was good, spacious, two large beds and a separate pretty couch for our 11-year-old daughter) they were nominally cleaned every day, but at the same time there was a layer of dust under the bed all the time, tables and bedside tables were wiped a couple of times in 12 days , linen and towels were also changed a couple of times (linen was far from new and for some reason different sizes). The maid is supposed to leave a coin in denominations of 1-2 euros on the bed every day, which we did; but this did not affect the quality of service, although a friend from Armonia (3 stars, tiny rooms) said that for the same tip the bed was changed daily for him. Soap was given once at the beginning and the day before departure, when a tiny remnant of the original three pieces remained. Toothpaste and brush, shampoo and shower gel are not supposed in principle, so bring your own. Perhaps this is a conscious policy: in souvenir shops, locally produced natural olive cosmetics are sold at every corner - apparently, it is assumed that tourists, by buying it, will support the local industry. Cosmetics, by the way, are not cheap. I do not advise taking a bathroom in the room at all, despite the fact that it is there. I took a chance and regretted it. Firstly, the cork does not close tightly, and as soon as you turn off the water, it begins to seep and leave. If you still managed to get a full bath and lie down in it for a while - do not pull the cork back, otherwise all its contents will begin to pour onto the floor through a hole in the floor. Leave the cork loosely closed - the water will go away by itself, and you will be saved from the flood. This is such a tricky system.
And lastly, entertainment. The hotel really does not have them, so look for them elsewhere. We ignored organized excursions, took a car for five days and drove everywhere ourselves. Cretan roads and driving style is, of course, extreme, but if you are confident, it is worth it. M
225 euros for 5 days - and the car is yours. Plus insurance for everything. The car was perfect, we were satisfied.
And lastly, communication. For low-cost calls to your home country, look for Dynamit calling cards - they are sold at a kiosk at a bus stop near Marilena. 5 euros - 300 minutes of conversation if you call to mobile phones (if you call landlines, it will be enough for a much longer period). But I do not advise buying local SIM-cards: the Greeks themselves do not really know either their own operators or tariffs. We paid 5 euros for the card itself (! ) and put another 5 euros into the account. The money on the phone ran out on the fourth day, although we only called up a friend from a nearby hotel and in total did not talk for an hour.

Finally decided to write a review about the hotel and the rest. For the first time abroad, I went with a work colleague. Although the rest didn’t bring a lot of impressions, I think we didn’t go in vain, because I think Turkey and Egypt will always be available, but Greece is in doubt.
Hotel Marilena - family, multinational, calm - for those who like to sit in the evenings at the bar and play cards, small, no territory, nowhere to walk. There is no animation, but there is a hotel across the road from AGAPI BEACH - there is a daily entertainment program - concerts, theme nights, discos, a theater - we went there very impressive.
The staff is friendly, trying to understand and help, they speak a little Russian.
Nutrition is a favorite topic for me, because. being a gourmet, you won’t talk to me about tasteless food... Breakfasts - I personally appeared once, then I ignored it, there was nothing for me to do there, especially since breakfast is early from 6:30 to 9:00, it’s better for me to sleep. Monotonously and not quite tasty - potato cheese, sausage, eggs, scrambled eggs, muesli, cottage cheese, chamomile tea (there is no green and black tea in Greece), sour coffee - for an amateur + lack of teaspoons. Lunch - very tasty, varied by day, but few in number of dishes. Very tasty casseroles . . Few desserts and fruits (watermelon + grapes), no cakes and ice cream. Sometimes poorly washed dishes.
Very good-natured girls in bars - just darlings! ! always in a good mood . . nimble, fast, everyone will be served regardless of national characteristics, though you need to get used to drinks at first . .
The rooms are cozy, bright, TV with the Russian channel ORT, air conditioning. Cleaning every day, fast and clean. No shampoo.
The sea is not calm, in 14 days we managed to swim normally once ! ! Strong waves, very shallow, a sea of sea urchins, a stone ridge, pipes with valves under water, which I ran into and pierced my leg in 2 places. , behind Agapi Beach. .
The tour operator was Pegasus (ELENA) - honestly I don’t know what they are responsible for, except for pushing vouchers about which they themselves don’t really know. + some kind of fee is taken to the cost of the tour . . We would not have known about our departure and flight delay, because the tour operator comes to the hotel for an hour and not every day. We couldn’t find her, thanks to the reception, the administrators contacted her, but she still didn’t come...
We went through Lena to Santorini - a little expensive, but beautiful, I want to take a picture of every corner . . We can call it a minus - a long way there and back, respectively . . sailing on a ship for about 2.5 hours is tiring, and the places are somehow not distributed very well . . Bathed on a black sand beach. . amazing. .
The island is calm, boring, in a day we walked up and down Ammoudara . . The streets are narrow, you can’t walk on the path together - either a pillar, or palm trees . . sometimes dirty and littered. Excellent air, sea water (even in the pool), a healthy diet, have a beneficial effect on the skin in a couple of days. .
The country is poor as gifts and souvenirs, there really is nothing to buy... even in Heraklion - the center of the island, a bus goes there for 1.3 euros (buy at a kiosk) and do not forget, they have a siesta from 14 to 17 all the shops are sleeping !!
Have a nice holiday!! ! I would be glad if my review helps someone in choosing a holiday and a hotel. .

Where can you find free Wi-Fi? There is a need for daily access to the network. But not for long. You don't want to pay for it every time. How is the hotel with theft? Can you leave valuables in the room? For example, an expensive camera, etc. (may not fit in the safe)
