For those who are too lazy to read a long review - a short summary: if you are used to 4-5-star holidays in Egypt and Turkey - you are not here!! ! This is a hotel for budget travelers who do not need animation, free sun loungers by the sea and clean towels every day, but a cheap "launching pad" for trips around Crete!
If you are not afraid of such a prospect - you can read on : )
The hotel has a category of 2 stars - well, it does not pull on more than that. Everything here is OLD: according to my estimates, little has changed in the hotel since the 80s... In the room you will be met by old furniture, the cheapest plumbing, a built-in wardrobe with homemade hangers, CONCRETE (!!! ) beds (but, I must say, with quite acceptable mattresses), windows and doors that do not really close, towels with holes... In general, already on the first day after arrival, we realized that it was not for nothing that the ticket cost us so cheap...

Of the food we paid for at the hotel only breakfast, and it was quite meager - bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, cereal, jam, tea / coffee and drinks like yuppies. We saw eggs exactly once - on the first morning. There was never any fruit. As for lunches/dinners - we ate several times at the pool bar. You have to wait a long time (once we waited an hour for dinner), but everything is prepared right in front of your eyes, from fresh products (some of them the bartender - he is the co-owner of the hotel - brings you from the garden located behind the bushes by the pool, which touched us : ) ) and very tasty. In addition, the city has a large number of taverns where you can eat inexpensively - we managed to have a full dinner together for 15-17 euros.
The hotel itself is small, about 30 rooms. We were at the end of the season, so there were not many people. Russian speakers and everyone else - somewhere around 40 to 60. The pool is small, but clean. Sun loungers (you guessed it - old ones) were always free.
We had a room overlooking the sea (or rather, a piece of the sea) and the main street. Accordingly - it was VERY noisy, so if you can't sleep in the noise - immediately ask for a room overlooking the pool, it should be quieter there.
The sea is 3-5 minutes walk from the hotel. The beach is very wide and sandy. You can take sun loungers, but we never took it, so I won’t say the price. The beach has a shower, which is very "on topic", given the above average percentage of salt in the water. For the faint of heart - a warning: not far from the beach there is some kind of industrial facility such as a power plant, so you should think about the purity of the air... But we didn’t think about it, and we didn’t feel any obvious discomfort : ) By the way, the sea in this place is quite restless, more than half of the 12 days there was a storm, and the water was much colder than in other places in Crete where we visited. But the pleasure of jumping in the waves is guaranteed!
As for the location - the hotel is located in the far part of Ammoudara, if you go from Heraklion. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the center, although in this village it is in principle difficult to determine what exactly is called the center - there is one long central street, and all establishments / shops are located around it. There are several nightclubs, but no matter how much we passed by, they were always empty. . . It seemed to me that for entertainment here you need to go to Heraklion. . .

Bus stop - 10 steps from the hotel. Buses to Heraklion run every 10-15 minutes, or even more often. It takes 15-25 minutes to drive to the center of Heraklion, depending on traffic. There are a lot of agencies for car rental and excursions, so if you wish, you can organize a very interesting vacation for yourself.
To summarize: if you are looking for comfort and coziness, you will definitely not find it here. But as a place to sleep and take a shower between trips to this beautiful island with AMAZING nature, it will do, and if the price offered to you for the rest is much lower than other alternatives - agree! We didn't regret it : )
