Sometimes reading reviews, you come to the conclusion that you should not go. Many tourists are able to find flaws in paradise too. . . if you search well! I faced the same problem when choosing a hotel. On various sites there is very conflicting information on the Themis beach 4 * hotel.
The hotel is located near the airport of Heraklion, drove for about 20 minutes, no more. This was important, since the whole family went on a trip with children 13 and 4 years old. During a long transfer, the daughter gets sick.
Settled quickly and without problems. Room 151 with side sea view, large double bed and bunk bed. An ordinary standard room, in many reviews tourists complain about the small size, but we were ready for this. The official website states that all numbers are the same. Cleaning every day, change of linen and towels without complaints.

The food is good and varied, for children and adults, "sharpened" for Italian cuisine - pizza, lasagna, various spaghetti and pasta. Comparison with food in Turkey is not appropriate and not correct. Between lunch and dinner, an additional "snack" at the pool bar - pizza. True, it is not very tasty - but it will go for the especially hungry)) Also ice cream and muffins.
Animators - cool guys from Italy, communicate in English, Italian. My eldest son became very friendly with them, now they communicate online. There is a mini club for children, but there were no activities. Classes with children were either by the pool or on the grass, where they play football. In principle, everything is standard - volleyball, football, water polo, darts, fitness in the pool with incendiary music, salsa and sirtaki lessons.
The beach is clean, sand, no shells or stones, only breakwaters of large boulders. During our stay, the north wind always blew, so it made waves. On the beaches there are various entertainments in the form of a banana, plates, scooters. The peculiarity of the beach is that on weekends Greek families come here, and they are what is called "all the way". At the same time, there was no inconvenience from their presence. Sunbeds and an umbrella are paid, there are a lot of them, there are always free ones. We used mats.
The swimming pool is spacious, with sea water, with a children's section. Sunbeds are free. Many, out of habit, occupied them from early morning, which was pointless, since there were many additional ones.
There is no free Internet, but no one promised it. You can buy a card at the reception for 10.15, 20 euros. We used the Internet in neighboring cafes, where we went to drink good coffee or cocktails. Despite the fact that Kokini Hani is a small village, there are many shops and cafes, rental offices outside the territory. There is always help for those who experience a language barrier. Goods and souvenirs are not particularly traded. In the rental office, the range of prices. Bargain! We had a company of seven people, we took two cars for two days at 60 euros each. For more days and the price is correspondingly less.

One day we went to the Palace of Knossos on our own. We arrived using a navigator prepared in Russia. Several times I had to disbelieve him and follow the signs. Of course, it was necessary to touch the history, but somehow this part of the history did not "hook" - you can see everything freshly reconstructed. After lunch, we went to the water park, the one that is closer and larger, on the mountain in Kokini Hani. Do not take a lot of things with you, as the rented boxes are small - you will have to "ram" things or take two. Objectively, the water park in Faliraki is better in Rhodes. However, the children were delighted.
On the second day of renting a car, we drove east, walked around Malia, visited the monastery of St. George, walked in the city of Agios Nikolaos. Then we went to the beach, where we spent time until the evening. The sea is calmer here. There was a desire to go to the south coast to Iapetra, but the daughter was tired of traveling by car and this idea was abandoned.
Summary of the trip to Crete:
1. Despite the opinion that Crete is "bald" and rocky, we liked it. There are places you still want to see. Hospitable and kind people live here (someone can argue, maybe they came across to us - everyone has their own story). It will be interesting for people of all ages.
2. The hotel made a very good impression with its cleanliness, friendly attitude of staff and animators, delicious food. For us personally, there was no negative that other tourists found. The children are happy, they did not want to return home.
And now about the unpleasant! About the tour operator We bought a ticket for two families (seven people, including 3 children). One voucher for all. Our friends left on the 17th, we on the 19th. On the way to the hotel they sent an SMS that they were being taken to another hotel - Diogenis Palace of the same category - 4 *, only one thing but... there is no animation, the beach cannot be called a beach. We immediately call the travel agent that we are not satisfied with this situation. Sent a letter to the Biblio Globe. The next day we received an official reply that both we and friends would be accommodated in Themis Beach. Relax, let's fly!
Upon arrival, the meeting representative immediately tells us. . . YOU WILL BE ACCOMMODATED IN DIOGENIS PALACE! Outrage knew no bounds! They categorically refused the "flattering" offer.
We arrived at the hotel right after lunch, five minutes late. The meeting party did not take care of lunch, got off with sandwiches.

On the day of departure (5 minutes before the start of lunch), no one remembered about dry rations. With a lot of kids leaving. The representative of the tour operator at the hotel said that tourists themselves should warn and take care of such things.
Sad but true, WE have to take care of ourselves. . .
Good luck to all! : )
