Hotel ratings by criteria:
The hotel itself is quite decent (quite 5 *), you can take any room, because. the hotel is located away from the road (200 meters), which in itself is rare for Crete, green, the territory is large. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of local wine and fruit, at check-in at the reception they immediately brought freshly squeezed apple juice for me and my wife (there were two of us).
Of the minuses:
1. It seemed that the walls between the rooms are thin, you can hear the voices of the neighbors. There are almost no complaints about the service.

2. What was simply shocking: The presence of oil slicks on the beach, despite the fact that the blue flag of the European Society for the Purity of the Environment proudly flies over the hotel (Probably "everything can be bought in Greece"). Anyone who swam in the sea, going ashore, stepped on oil specks, barely noticeable against the background of black pebbles, with a diameter of 1 kopeck coin to 5 ruble coins, and the stains on the soles of the feet are not washed...
Near the beach showers, canisters of gasoline and rags were placed to clean up such stains. I had never encountered such a phenomenon before in my life, I was terribly amazed, the Greeks managed to do it.
Moreover, to the question both to the Russian-speaking employee of the hotel, and to the English-speaking ones, they received one (seemingly an agreed answer) - it was the rotted algae that was taken out by the storm.
At first we fell for this bait, because at first we could not understand why our legs and swimming trunks got dirty. WE GROUND IN THE HANDS ALL THE ALGAE MADE BY THE SEA, BUT THEY STRONGLY DIDN'T Smear, and only after a careful study of the shore did they collect half a glass of oil plaques and take them home as a souvenir.
I leave the mentality of the Greeks without comment - for an amateur..... it’s not for nothing that they love us Russians - probably we are the same (with laziness, no one will overwork, there is a mini-king inside everyone), etc. Okay, that's me all about the sad.
I got the impression that this hotel is one of the best on the island (it seems that other hotels of the Grecotel system are also good, there were 2 nearby), as we saw more than ten other hotels - all turned out to be worse.
The island itself is pretty, but it consists of solid hills and mountains, the people live in poverty (obviously worse than, for example, in Turkey), modern Greek architecture is very poor and nondescript.
In a completely different tone, one can say about the ancient history of the country: Knossos, Phaestas stagger the imagination and the question involuntarily arises of how the Minoans could create such a developed civilization 4 thousand years ago and to what extent the modern Greeks fell into decline, sorry.

Rethymnon is gorgeous, you find yourself in the Venetian streets 500-700 years ago, the port, taverns: charming, cozy, warm, delicious. A small dash - the Greeks repair old Venetian houses only at the level of the first floor - there is a shop there, and the next 3 floors are empty with broken windows, but still with a soul, an Italian soul. Forgive me if someone did not like my impressions, these are sensations of what they saw.
