We were in India for the first time. We had a family vacation with a 3-year-old child at the Kenilworth Hotel in March 2010. Before the trip, I read a huge number of reviews - both good and bad, I was very worried about the well-being of the child in India, about food, water, etc. I took a huge first aid kit with me to all occasions - and it was not useful to us. : )
Of course, this is India, and you just need to be mentally prepared for this. Turkey, for example, is an order of magnitude higher in terms of service, cleanliness, food, a lot has already been written about this. But everywhere there are pluses and minuses, I will try to be objective.
About the hotel: we liked it. Well-groomed, clean territory, a really wonderful, well-designed pool (for children, even toddlers, and adults), smiling, attentive staff, quiet and comfortable. Our room was on the 1st (above zero) floor - but it was still damp - the bed was damp, the books were damp, the swimsuits did not dry out well. Who cares, but it didn’t bother me much, after all, these are the tropics, and we are on the ocean.

When checking in, they wanted to give us a room starting from zero, but I remembered from the reviews that the rooms on the 0th floor are bad, so immediately at the reception, holding out $ 10, smiling, I asked for another room, quiet and comfortable. The girl smiled back and without question gave a room on the 1st floor, a view of the lawn, really quiet, but did not take the money. Conclusion: we must not forget that we are visiting them, if you are treated politely, you will receive a polite attitude in return and the request will not be denied.
No one speaks Russian at the hotel (only a visiting guide from the tour operator), so we took a dictionary with us and, straining our whole supply of broken English, spoke. In principle, we were understood, at least, the problems - the light bulb burned out, the neighbors yelled Indian songs at night (there was such an incident 2 days before departure), the Wi-Fi card did not work - they solved it.
Nutrition is a separate issue. Again, this is not Turkey, the Russian tourist has not yet been studied so well here. Spicy, specific, unusual food. We ate several times in a cafe on the beach (yes, the same Uncle Kolya, whose cafe is located further from Kenilworth beach, about 300-400 meters to the left along the coast - it is cleaner and tastier, and in Russian understand, and generally a nice person! ).
But in the end, we concluded that it’s better to eat at the hotel with a child (despite the higher prices) and take a buffet (they call it a buffet) for lunch and dinner (breakfast was included in the price of the tour), because to choose what -either from the main menu in English is problematic, and there is no certainty that the child will eat what they bring. The cost of the "buffet" in March 2010: lunch = 620 rupees per person, dinner - approx. 800 rupees per person (Child 3 years old - free of charge).

It was possible to eat only a very limited set of dishes. For breakfast: scrambled eggs, toast with butter or jam, hot milk, pancakes with honey, chopped fresh tomatoes and cucumbers and fresh fruit, rolls. For lunch - sometimes boiled potatoes, always steamed rice, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers again, sometimes chicken is not spicy, sometimes chicken or potato soup is not spicy, the child also liked beans in tomato sauce - also not very spicy. Dinner - the same potatoes or rice, soup (day after day is not necessary), sometimes there were tolerable salads. Once there was even a "Russian salad" - something that tries its best to look like "Olivier". It happened that there was nothing special to feed the child, but they still didn’t go hungry : ). I really liked their sweets and liked to overeat pineapples for breakfast, which we love very much. They also bake delicious naans, lavash-type flatbreads. But somehow we didn’t like seafood and fish, here, apparently, it’s a matter of taste.
I also note that during the entire time, neither we nor the child had problems with digestion.
Perhaps the meager (for our stomachs) food and dampness were the only drawbacks of our holiday. In all other respects, I think that the rest was a success! A clean sandy beach, a warm ocean where you can swim for hours, a cloudless sky and lots and lots of sun! All this in Goa is in abundance, that's why we flew there. : )
I saw reviews about the fact that the hotel is boring - it really is. For those looking for entertainment, it is better to choose other places. But we, exhausted by the insane rhythm of life at home, went precisely for such peace and quiet, when you can safely play with your child, build a sand castle, read, take a walk, swim, be silent, contemplate. For such a holiday, Kenilworth is perfect.
