Trip to the island of Capri via Naples and Pompeii
In order to go on an excursion from Anzio to the island of Capri via Naples with a stop at the tragically famous Pompeii, we had to get up at 3:30. Breakfast - dry ration (bun, apple, water), departure to Naples at 4:00. At first I wanted to confine myself to visiting Naples and Pompeii and did not want to go to the island of Capri, but then I nevertheless decided and gave up the money (48 €).
We slept a little on the road, and at 7:15 we stopped for breakfast at a gas station in the suburbs of Naples. I bought two bagels with marmalade (cornetto) for 2.6 € and had breakfast on the platform near the bus overlooking Vesuvius.
We entered the city and at 8:00 we picked up a guide - an aged Italian woman. We drove through the hills, from where we can see the city far away. At 8:15 we stopped at the observation deck, where you can clearly see the bay and the seaside part of the city.
Then we drove through the streets, walked a bit and by 9 o'clock came to the Referendum Square - on the one hand the Royal Palace,
opposite is the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola.
Then we went to the Umberto Gallery, where you can take a picture on your zodiac sign (floor mosaic),
and at 9:30 we turned into a souvenir and alcohol shop, where those who wish bought a real limoncello.
At about 10:00 we went to Pompeii, at first we passed old Naples houses, dilapidated back in the war, then from the flyover you could see modern city skyscrapers. We drove outside the city with a view of the mysteriously calm Vesuvius.
We arrived in Pompeii at 10:30 and immediately went to the excavations.
The impression is dull, it was hot, there was volcanic dust underfoot.
Sometimes there were crowds of foreign tourists, and it was difficult for groups to disperse in the narrow streets.
At 12:00 we left the excavations, lunch was announced before 13:00. We sat down in a cafe, it was possible to take the complex, but we took a pizza for two for 7 € (+ 1 € for service). We wandered around the souvenir market for half an hour, met a married couple of Russian sellers.
At 13:30 we left Pompeii. We arrived at the port of Naples, everyone was given tickets for a boat to Capri.
At 14:40 we set sail. I sat on the upper deck, from where I had a good view of Naples and the suburbs, Vesuvius, and then the approaching island of Capri. The guide said that Father Capri looked like a woman's face in profile, but for me (and not only) it looked more like a crocodile's head.
At 15:40 we sailed to Capri.
Part of the group immediately went boating along the island, the rest and I had a free hour.
Someone went to a miniature pebble beach
and I bought a can of beer and went for a walk along the narrow streets.
Then I decided to have a bite to eat, bought another can of beer and took one panino (swirled dough with cheese and sausage inside) from the Augusto cafe. And he sat down in front of the cafe at one of the tables, decided to catch wi-fi. The waitress came over and kicked me out. At first I showed a paper bag with the logo of their cafe, then pretended that I did not understand. She called another polyglot waitress, she figured out that I was Russian, but took pity and allowed me to sit.
At 17:00 we took the funicular up, the ascent took about 3.5 minutes.
I sat down by the window and filmed the entire ascent.
The observation deck at the end of the funicular offers a great view of the town, the sea, etc.
Walked through the streets, past expensive boutiques and luxury hotels,
then we came to the Giardini di Augusto park.
A little walk in the park,
looked from a cliff , and at 18:00 we went down by funicular and again a free hour.
From 19:10 to 20:00 we sailed back on the boat. The boat was of a different type, without an upper open deck, and we sat inside like in an airplane, three rows. By the way, the whistle of the engine was about the same.
Arriving in Naples, we drank wine on the bus in honor of the guide's birthday yesterday. At 23:20 we returned to Anzio.
