Rome. Reviews about the hotel, about the guide.
Recently returned from Rome. The hotel, or rather the apartments, were booked by ourselves. "Suite della Vite Guest House". This was the first time we stayed in an apartment. At first it was not usual: we arrived at the address of the right house, there was no hall, the door was closed - where to call, what to do ??? ? The waiter came out from a nearby restaurant, it turned out that this restaurant belongs to the apartments. Somehow explained. He walked us to our apartment, explained everything and gave us the keys. We booked a three-bed room in a classic style, but they messed something up and provided us with a two-story penthouse suite with a modern interior. In the end, we were satisfied. The location is convenient, everything is nearby: the Spanish steps, the fountain of clubs, the fountain of triton - 3 minutes walk, there are many shops of famous brands around. Photos on booking com are completely true.
Breakfast: amlet, parma, dessert, coffee, fresh juice - and so every day the same thing. They don't have a buffet. You come to a restaurant, they start cooking for you, they take everything out as soon as it's ready. To be honest, I only liked the fact that the juices were fresh. Another minus in breakfasts is that they start at 9.30 (in my opinion, it’s very late, our excursions started at 9, and on some days we didn’t have time for breakfast in the restaurant, in this case they brought from the evening of the previous day to the room: bread, a bottle of fresh juice, pie, parma, cheese, milk, a coffee maker were in the room) But since we had our own kitchen, we bought everything we needed in the store. All the disadvantages of breakfast are fully compensated by two terraces, all in greenery. In the evenings, the restaurant downstairs is open a la carte. I don't recommend eating there at all.
The city itself is stunningly beautiful. I have never seen such a layering of epochs. Only after visiting this city I understood why I call it eternal. I understood it with all my heart and soul. I do not understand those people who did not like this city (there are such acquaintances). I think that on your own without excursions, but with a guide you can explore the city. There are a lot of Bus Tourists - buses plying around the city with stops at most attractions. I don’t know how much a ticket costs, because we didn’t use it, but I saw a Russian flag painted on the buses, which means they have an audio guide in Russian. We chose a very convenient time for the trip. in March there are still not as many tourists as from May to September, and it is not so hot. In general, the walk was very comfortable.
A tour of the Vatican is very tiring, we paid 150 euros + entrance tickets, in my opinion, 10 euros each. I think that it would be better to go and see everything yourself, but with a tour it is better to go to the Vatican Gardens.
You can talk about Rome for a very long time, it's better to see everything for yourself!
Special thanks to the guide. We have never had a better guide. Not punctual at all, late for 30 minutes, then an hour. The tours were terrible. In Rome, we were generally unlucky with guides:
At first we contacted one guide by e-mail. We needed a round trip transfer, a city tour, a tour of the Vatican, and a field trip to the Papal Residence. We didn’t have time to discuss the excursions with the guide, we didn’t get exact information, and the guide already sent us a list of what to bring from Russia: a couple of blocks of cigarettes, caviar, vodka. Fine?
As a result, we turned to another guide, who turned out to be no better. He did not meet himself, he sent a driver who did not speak Russian, naturally there was no one to help us with accommodation. The excursion the next day was at 9, respectively, we had dry rations for breakfast, and the guide eventually arrived at 10, we would have known we would have had time to have breakfast normally. I didn’t show half, I said you live nearby, see for yourself....
Exit excursion out of town was generally atas. Instead of the promised 10 a. m. , I arrived at 12 a. m. After the tour, we got the impression that for 400 euros we were taken out of town for a wine tasting (and for extra money, given that we bought 5 more bottles) and to have lunch (also for an additional fee) . The tour was an hour shorter than previously agreed. But for the same money.
