Now let's go through the myths that have developed in our heads after reading the Internet.

"Venice can be circumnavigated in 3 hours. " The central part of Venice, without nondescript mounds on the outskirts, has an average diameter of 4 kilometers. And from Piazza Roma to Piazza San Marco is about 2.5 km, which at a given pace gives us half an hour to go. But, despite such short distances, you can wander around Venice for days. It is worth considering the buffer time for wandering along the dead-end branches of the streets. And oh, how nice and interesting to blukat. It is better to have a guidebook with you in order to somehow justify yourself to your wife that, they say, we just went here to look at this wonderful church.

“It smells in Venice... ” - we drove right away. Smells like the sea. Who does not like the smell of the sea, salt and algae, then those in the Crimea will not breathe.

“There are a lot of people in Venice, you can’t get through, you can’t drive through. ” Indeed, a lot of people only on Piazza San Marco and at the entrance to the temple of the same name. There the queue does not decrease until closing. Yes, and in the vicinity of the square at lunchtime, when crowds of tourists with goggle-eyed look for free tables in nearby cafes. Otherwise, Venice is not very crowded, and in some areas you can get bored. When we, upon arrival, went for a walk at 7 pm, I was simply surprised by such a lack of people.

"Venice can be seen in a day. " Close to the truth. In fact, the time gap is somewhere between days and never. You can trot through almost all back streets in a day, swallow a couple of slices of pizza along the way and cover a couple of remaining areas in the evening. Then, with a calm soul, put a tick in the diary, and write on the net: “We were, we know. ” But we were there for 2 days, visited several museums and now, rereading the guide, I understand that we saw only the external facade without visiting the chambers of such an elite dwelling as Venice. So see for yourself. Your pace and enjoyment will directly depend on the allotted number of days. I only ask you, do not be greedy with the days!

For 2 days we did not have time to master the local cuisine and taste the delights of Venetian masters. To be honest, there just wasn't time. One afternoon we landed at a cafe not far from Piazza San Marco. But we were so absorbed in information and plans that after swallowing a rather tasty lasagna and spaghetti with a large bowl of vegetable salad and water, wine, we did not bother to make out the name of the establishment. Lunch took us only 40 minutes and 25 euros. The rest of the time we ate wonderful pizza from small street pizzerias for 5-6 euros for a family size flatbread. The pizzas were delicious and incomparable. I even managed to try such a miracle as pizza, with cucumbers and zucchini. Yummy!

Oh yes! We also had a bite to eat in one of the cafes on the Lido island. There was a tolerable risotto and wonderful Sprits - a drink made from champagne, mineral water and Campari. Great for cooling and energizing. The cafe asked us for 2 cocktails and 1 risotto 12 euros.

Particularly surprised by the situation with souvenirs. For every pocket and taste. Magnets are sold from 80 kopecks, and you can buy masks for both 3 euros and 80. But does it matter which one will gather dust on your shelf, rarely looking out within the apartment to surprise your friends who come to drink beer. Well, if you have more serious plans, then in Venice you will fully satisfy your dream.

On Piazza San Marco we visited a small shop selling certified Murano glassware. Prices start from 10 euros, but the products are truly unique. Pay attention to leather bags (not fashionable from blacks near bridges - they are punished with good fines for this) in shops. If you are not obsessed with brands, but rejoice at good quality, then there you can easily pick up an original product for yourself at prices of 20-50 euros.

Well, that's all. He described what he could, what he did not forget to mention. I apologize in advance for the quality of the photographs taken in museums. The photographs were taken offhand, under the guns of the museum guards, and are given only to convey the inner mood of the museum itself.

Venice is a wonderful city. He does not have all those negative traits that evil tongues have awarded him. It is always open to the heart of any tourist and does not at all look like a continuous rip off with a competent and prudent approach (And without a head on your shoulders, you and we can be ripped off no worse at any station).

Seeing her once, you will not noticeably be drawn to her again and again. There is something in these shabby streets, echoing the branches of the Grand Canal. The reflection of the rays of the setting sun, reflected in the endless number of palace windows, smoothly take out the grandiose church architecture from the shadows. The smell of the sea, filling you with romance all the time of your stay in this city of the sea kingdom. And the magnetism of small restaurants located in miniature streets or along the branches of the sea arteries will tirelessly attract you with the aroma of baked bread and olive oil.

Italians know the value of their cultural heritage and consider it one of the main sources of their wealth. It is in the blood of Italians to do everything beautifully and artistically, and being in Venice one is amazed at how it was possible to rebuild such a graceful city on the water. What unites such masterpieces as a gondola, St. Mark's Cathedral and landscape painting inside temples and palaces? Their creators were inspired by Madonna and Child and motivated by a plate of steaming pasta.

To be in Venice means to live and breathe deeply, and at least once in a lifetime - everyone should do this. And trust me, it's not a cliché . Just do not plan a one-day meeting without an overnight stay, otherwise you will never learn anything about it.

After our return, I'm already re-planning my next trip, which will end in a wonderful evening or two in Venice. But now my daughter will share this fairy tale with us.
