We rested in Sri Lanka from 10/27/2017 to 11/06/2017. We celebrated our honeymoon with my parents. 6 adults. Booked 3 rooms. Before checking out from the hotel, they discovered the loss of money from the safe in the room. More than 2000$!! ! The loss was discovered 2 hours before the arrival of the transfer to the airport, when we started to pack. For the entire holiday, we never touched this money, as we changed a sufficient amount of money at the airport, which was enough for us until the end of the holiday. We took this amount with us just in case. And they didn’t put it on the card, because they decided that it would most likely be problematic to find an ATM and withdraw cash without a commission. Immediately after we discovered the loss, we turned to the hotel staff. But they replied that there were no signs of hacking, which means they are not responsible for this. Since the doors and windows were not forced, we suspect the theft of hotel employees who had access to the keys to the rooms. The rooms have a safe with a combination lock, which you install yourself. But most likely the employees know how to open the safe without your password. Basically, we visited the beach near the hotel and could return to the room at any time. But once in the morning it was raining and we decided to go for souvenirs. We turned to the hotel manager Mehesh to tell us the address or the name of the shop where you can buy tea and souvenirs. He suggested that we call tuk-tuks with drivers he knew. We think that the theft occurred while we were away, because the hotel staff could ask the driver where we were and how long we would be away from the hotel. Also that day we were the only guests in the hotel. And the hotel staff could sneak into our rooms without attracting attention (this hotel does not do housekeeping). The tuk-tuk drivers themselves demanded quite a large amount from us for their services. For ordinary drivers on the street, prices are about 2 times lower. If you still decide to visit this hotel, then be very careful with your belongings, do not leave anything in the safe and take valuables with you when you leave the room.
In general, we liked Sri Lanka, but if you decide to relax here, it is better to choose another hotel.
A similar situation happened with tourists from Russia who rested after us.
