wanted briefly - but it will not work. So: we wanted exotic. We are quite budget travellers. The choice is SRI LANKA. Due to a number of objective reasons - June, the rainy season. We wanted to go east right away, but the money there is much more expensive and it takes much longer to get there. Total - Hikkaduwa, because there is a good reef according to reviews, and its best hotel is Chaya Trans.
So, Air ARABIA flew, the seats were tolerable, the monitor on the ceiling, like in minibuses, for the first hour shows like Charlie Chaplin and cartoons, and then for four hours something like a navigator: a map, what we are flying over, speed, altitude, arrival time... stewardesses like As a rule, there are Russian speakers (ours), but the entire flight is only engaged in the sale of food and goods from duty free. I don't understand people who buy things on the plane. By the way, even water is free. stock up on yours.
The airport in Sharjah is small, but stupid in structure, expensive and with arrogant Arab customs officers (screening and search). But the water was passed here.

Colombo. Everything seems to be normal and cultural. Only problems were with those who bought a visa remotely. Who paid on the spot - no problem. Yes, and when they flew back, they went through an inspection and search 4 times, all 4 times they let the water through again, well, apparently such orders.
Met the guide, warned no one to give any things or money. Changed money at 128.5 rupees. Didn't take a sim.
First impressions of traffic - stop the earth, I'll get off. our bus would break all the records on the dredge for acceleration and braking + left movement. motorcycles let cars, auto minibuses and jeeps, jeeps, buses and trucks, and trucks only rare cows, and the rest who didn’t hide and didn’t move even in the oncoming lane - it’s not his fault.
Hotel: arrived at 8 am. an ice towel after these Sri Lankan slides and cool, tasteless passion fruit juice is good, but they don’t want to settle in any. More precisely - only for 40 bucks. We persuaded, got acquainted with the territory, lay dressed on sun loungers under a palm tree, met chipmunks, worked at the reception as translators - and at 11.30 we asked for a room on the 3rd (according to our 4th) floor. It was lucky that this wing is further from the street, a paid restaurant, a disco and a NIKKA cafe across the road, there is only the sound of the ocean. So take numbers 304-310 or 404-410. We tried to bargain for a suite - and there are only 4 of them for the hotel, and they charge 100 bucks per night for them. Expensive even for a jacuzzi on the balcony.

The design of the hotel is interesting, they call it colonial style, but in my opinion it is a mixture of some economy and ignorance, well, plus the requirements of the climate. In general, the room is normal, with a magnificent balcony with a sofa overlooking the ocean and the hotel grounds. the only negative is moisture, but they already knew where they were going. They clean it 2 times a day, but the cleaning is so-so: they wipe it in the bathroom, change the towels, put water (0.5l), check the coffee and the mini-bar. What for even in the evening they come - it is not clear. The bed was changed about once every two days. Smiling, nodding, "SIR" and all that. They left a dollar, 200 rupees, a pack of cigarettes - to be honest, it did not affect the quality in any way, and we finally scored. The laptop, camera and mobile phones were left right on the table - everything is fine.
The territory is good, better, look at the photo, a lot of palm trees, there were no problems with sun loungers in the off-season, chipmunks, monitor lizards, a bar is nearby, security is watching - the locals do not even have a foot on the territory, although it is almost not fenced, we go to the beach calmly left things, bags, towels . True, if you take a deck chair close to the edge of the territory, the natives will get it. The locals are a whole other issue. All spoiled, lazy, to talk "how are you, where are you from, but let's go... or buy... or just look... " In general, on the one hand, spoiled by bucks, and of course everyone sees us not as friends, but only greedy bags of money, on the other hand, everything is quite cultural, I smile, it is not difficult to get rid of them, unlike the arrogant and boorish Arabs.
Sea. More precisely - the ocean. This beach was chosen with the hope of snorkeling in the reefs and even diving. Hopes drowned in the waves. And despite the reef, which decently extinguished the waves (in other hotels, people could not enter the water at all - and our children swam), there was a lot of sandy suspension near the reefs. Well, I dived with a visibility of 1-1.5 meters, I saw a lot of different fish, but this is not it. the next day I went diving - even worse, the reefs are not visible and there is a risk of peeling off my skin. That's basically the only big disappointment.
It rained a couple of times for a couple of minutes, and two days in a row it rained for an hour at lunchtime. So it is necessary to say not the rainy season, but the wave season. Although for surfers this is just the season.

The restaurant is beyond praise. I have never seen so many dishes, such a variety and such quality. Plus, every breakfast and dinner on the street, two chefs cook meat, fish, pancakes, pancakes, etc. on the fire. Plus Tables on the street almost on the ocean. The only good drinks and alcohol are paid and expensive. and so - 7 points out of 5. Of the local chords, only in RED LOBSTER - well, of course, for the lobster (there are no lobsters in the Indian Ocean). Inexpensive, primitive environment, but ate seafood from the belly. In the check the same as in the menu + 10%.
We went on a tour with a guide from Exotic Holidays, his name is Roma, a normal guy, in Russian, even on the phone he is understandable, if necessary I will give his number. Interestingly, for the first time I meet a place where beach-boys offer excursions much more expensive than the official guide at the hotel. We went to Kandy with elephant rides, the temple of the tooth of the Buddha, the Royal Botanical Gardens, tea plantations, a tea factory, a spice garden, a gem factory - in general, the usual tourist program, we generally liked it, except for a couple of cases of divorce and extortion, the impressions are very good, interpretation very tired + traffic again. A couple of days later, on the beach, we met a German-speaking tuk-tuker and went with him to a turtle farm in Kosgoda, and then for a walk along the lagoon-river. Well, that's another story.
In general, the exotic came out a little expensive, a few negative points, but magnificent nature, the original culture and life of this small country, a wonderful ocean, a good hotel with excellent cuisine...
We liked it very much, although we probably won't go a second time.
