Short summary: Good hotel for a beach holiday if you choose the right room. If it were not for the shortcomings described below, lubricating the impression, it would be great.

1. Location, territory, condition.
The hotel is located in Kalutara. It takes 1 hour 40 minutes by taxi to Colombo Airport at night, 3 hours during the day. It takes so long due to the peculiarities of local traffic - the road is busy, in many places it is being repaired, besides, they drive as they want and, apparently, therefore they do not risk at high speed. If you take a taxi on the street will cost no more than $ 30 (minibus with air conditioning). Booking at the hotel cost $85.
Hotel next to the beach. The beach is sandy. The sand is yellow and not very coarse, but it is not very suitable for walking barefoot.

After a short walk you feel it like sandpaper. In addition, during the day it is hot, and that part of the beach where the waves come is steep - it is inclined by 20 degrees. The beach is considered public. There are no sunbeds on the beach at all. You cannot take hotel towels to the beach - this is monitored by security guards at the beach exits. There are constant waves in the ocean, so there are few swimmers. The entrance to the water is gentle. After 5-10 meters from the shore, the depth becomes about 1.5 m and with small drops goes far ahead. The bottom is comfortable - dense fine sand. The waves are moderately high - very nice to jump in them.
The hotel has a good green area. On the territory of the hotel in front of the beach there is a large meadow with palm trees and a lawn on which "mushrooms", tables and sunbeds are placed.
there is another Royal Palms Hotel of the same owner. You can use its territory and infrastructure.
The hotel is well maintained.
For this reason, it is better not to get into the rooms facing this direction. Some of the rooms overlooking the garden are also defective. In one place it was very similar to a nearby sewer, in another place (the left wing) something was constantly buzzing.
The ocean view rooms have a noise issue. With the window open, the noise is 60 decibels (like a loud conversation) - measured with a “noise level meter” - a program on a smartphone. The same figure with the window closed and the air conditioner turned on. With the air conditioner off and the window closed 40 dB (quiet conversation). When you go to bed, this “quiet conversation” becomes very noticeable! There was a ceiling fan in our room, but it did not solve the problem, because at full speed it made more noise than the air conditioner, and at low it made a loud high-frequency sound. We got out of the situation like this - turned on the air conditioner in the next room to the maximum (see photo).
more about the room), but in theirs they turned off and left the door to the room open.
We had room 327. This is a Luxury Suite - a two-room suite at the end of the left wing (if you face the ocean). For some reason, these numbers were not on the booking sites. The room is almost perfect.
Advantages: large area; two rooms with separately controlled air conditioning + adjustable ceiling fan above the bed; bed with anti-mosquito canopy; balcony and terrace not visible from the territory; teapotteacoffee; 32 inch TVs in every room; WiFi, when from, was fast enough to surf about 150 kbs.

Disadvantages (insignificant): there are no sockets in places where it would be convenient to sit down with a laptop or put a telnote tablet on charge; “protected” sockets - you need to press the blocker to connect; the ceiling fan at low speeds is very buzzing; the air conditioner in the bedroom only works at maximum; from the room is an ordinary iron key, not a card and they give only one key.

4. Service
The rate during our stay was 130LKR for 1USD. The hotel changed at the rate of 124LRR/USD. There are no ATMs nearby - you need to go to the nearest shopping center, it seems like 10 minutes by tuk-tuk. It is forbidden to bring 4 types of fruit into the hotel: coconut, durian, mangosteen and pineapple due to their smell or attraction to ants
Advantages:
Upon check-in, we managed to agree on a discount for the room (otherwise we would have gone to another hotel) and on a late check-out (until the end of 05.02. .
The rest of the service is great too.
Significant shortcomings (deliberate manipulation by the hotel).
Quite wild WiFi policy:
a) More than one user cannot connect using one login and password at the same time - you need to buy another card.
b) The access card limits three parameters at once: the total connection time (if you do not log out, the time is written off); limit of days of use; volume of traffic. For example, a $18 card includes: 15 hours of connection within 7 days and no more than 3Gb of traffic. Since you regularly forget to log out, the card ends in 3 days.
c) The Internet was often cut off.
d) The connection system is deliberately crooked. First you need to connect to an access point. After that, go to the browser and try to go to some page. Instead of such a page, a page appears with fields for entering a login and password.
After entering the login and password, a page with buttons appears, including the logout button. It is advisable not to close it, because if you do not log out, time continues to be spent.
Breakfast was included in the price. Unfortunately, you can't refuse it. If you wish, you can pay extra for the inclusion of lunch and / or dinner. The cost of both lunch and dinner is approximately $20 per person. Drinks (except tea / coffee) for a fee. Breakfast ends at 9:00, so its value is often lost.
I would not consider the above as disadvantages if instead of fraudulent manipulations, a higher, but fair price would simply be set.

In the evening we tried to order food to the room from the menu that was in the room. The order was accepted, but even after a reminder call, they did not bring it.
