In Sri Lanka, my bride and I decided to go on a honeymoon. The choice fell on this country on several criteria:
1) you do not need a visa (and if you do not arrive on a charter flight, but a regular one, you do not pay any fees at the airport - a trifle, but nice  );
2) by nature and climate - it's just a kind of PARADISE;
3) the price is much cheaper than Bali or Thailand;
4) none of our acquaintances have been there yet, and it is quite interesting to be a pioneer.
All acquaintances and relatives who heard where we were going made square eyes and asked “Why are you going there? There is also a rainy season and war in general. "But the war ended a month before our arrival. And thanks to my new Skypov acquaintance Christina (Ukrainian, who has been living in Sri Lanka for 3 years), I learned that the rains there are mostly at night and they are generally short-lived.
Our friend tour operator Julia helped in choosing the hotel (for which she is very grateful).

Of the 5 hotels we have chosen, we chose Blue Water, which is located in Wadduwa, and did not regret it.
And finally, 2 days after the wedding, we take off from the runway of Boryspil airport. AirArabia was not the best, but the cheapest. And therefore the service corresponds to the prices. Food and drinks are only paid (water is free), and sandwiches do not look very much, and as it turned out later, the taste is also rubber.  First flew 5 hours to Sharjah (UAE), there is a transfer of 2 hours, and then another 4 hours to Sri Lanka. A Russian-speaking guide was waiting for us at the airport (although it was 3 o'clock in the morning) and together with the driver they took the two of us to the hotel. The dream took off like a hand. We rode fascinated by this beauty and just shook our heads. It was as if it were some other planet, EVERYTHING else: people, nature, buildings and air.
About an hour later we arrived at the hotel. We were met, asked for documents and did everything in just 5 minutes.
And in 10-15 minutes. We went into the room and gasped: the balcony overlooked the ocean, which was 70-80 meters. Looking at the ocean from the height of the 3rd floor is SOMETHING.
Talking about the hotel and Sri Lanka is a waste of time - it's a must see live.

About food. We had two meals: breakfast and dinner. But we are so fed up that this is enough. The hotel does not operate at all All inc. , and therefore all booze (water as well) is paid. And the prices are not small: a bottle of wine - 2800 rupees ($ 25), beer 0.5 l – 350 rupees ($ 3), plain water 0.5 l – 100 rupees ($ 0.9). But if we were not real Ukrainians, we might have bought everything in the hotel, but it was not here. We went to a supermarket or even a regular store and already bought there: 0.33l beer - 70 rupees ($ 0.6), plain water 1.5l - 55 rupees ($ 0.5). That's how they got out.  The food at the hotel is delicious and varied, a lot of spicy, but you get used to it quickly and in a week you are looking for “where is that sharp fish? ». Themed evenings were arranged: Sri Lankan cuisine, Mongolian cuisine, etc.
There were evenings from the chef (without a buffet, but with a menu of several dishes to choose from). There are always a lot of fruits: bananas, pineapples, papayas, melons, watermelons, limes, rambutans, mangoes, dates…. and this is not a complete list! ! ! ! ! Yes, I took my soul there with pineapples. (Pineapples there are very cheap in mountainous areas: the largest, I have not seen in Ukraine, cost 4.5 hryvnias for our money. ) A lot of different pastries and sweets. Yes, okay, enough, because I remember and drool.
About service. The staff, like all the people on the island are friendly and welcoming. One thing I did not like - Pool-boys, carrying mattresses, a little arrogant. Cleaning in the room every day, and possible not only in the morning but also during the day if you hang a sign (with a tip, we left every other time).
The ocean is SOMETHING. And although the red flag was constantly hanging (bathing is forbidden), the Slavic soul did not cross 3 time zones to flounder like Germans or British in the pool.
And we swam in the ocean. To tell the truth, it is not possible to swim, because the waves are too strong, but jumping on the ocean waves is not for the faint of heart. If one wave goes to the knee, then the next can cover the head. And they are incredibly strong, and they carry you to the shore, then drag you into the ocean. The bottom changed almost every day, and where there was a spit yesterday, today there could be a pit. There were also 2 pools 1.4 and 1.7 m deep, connected by a canal 1.2 m deep.
Since June is not the season, and there were not enough people, the animation worked so well. But there was water polo every day. Also on site are 2 tennis courts (4.5 $ -1h), a squash house (4.5 $ -1h), ping pong, large (70-80 cm) chess (free), gym. There is a large spa (but the prices there are biting, in Turkey 3-4 times cheaper). There was live music every night.

There was a disco on Friday and Saturday, but since the main contingent was older people, there was no one at the disco except the waiters.
Now about the weather. Although the rainy season in Sri Lanka from May to November, our holiday was 100% successful. We were there for 18 days, of which the rain was interrupted almost all day only once, with t was 28-32. And so the rains were mostly at night. And if during the day, then 1 time and literally 15-20 minutes. No one even took the mattresses from the sunbeds, they just rolled them up, and in half an hour they were sunbathing under the palm trees again. By the way, sunbathing in the open sun is almost impossible - you can burn, and we used creams with 50 levels of protection. And I will tell you that no beach umbrellas will replace live palm trees with royal coconuts.
About excursions. From the tours we went to Halle and Kandy. Excursions in Sri Lanka is a separate poem. So the tour in Halle includes: a turtle farm, a walk on the river Madu (about 1 hour.
) on a motor boat, a museum of masks, an ancient Dutch fortress, swimming in the bay with corals and turtles. And all this at a price of $ 30 for 1 (originally it was $ 50 for 1). And the tour in Kandy includes: a botanical garden, a jewelry factory, a tea plantation, a tea factory, an "elephant nursery" (where 75 elephants live), elephant riding (for a fee), a spice garden, a Buddha's tooth temple. And all this at a price of $ 150 for 2 (originally it was $ 100 for 1). In short, you have to bargain everywhere. I sometimes knocked down the price of souvenirs 4 times when they asked for $ 20 and then paid for $ 5. During the tours you can stop anywhere: at least a restaurant, at least a supermarket, at least anywhere. This has the advantage that excursions in Sri Lanka are individual, from 2 people. Air-conditioned car, driver and guide at your disposal all day. We also went to the capital Colombo by taxi for 4 people.

paid $ 40 (20km one way, went to the waterfront, walked there for about an hour, then shopping and then 20km back to the hotel). On a tuk-tuk (such a three-wheeled motorcycle) it costs $ 16 for two. To the bank (2 km) and back to the hotel on a tuk-tuk agreed for $ 2.5.
Maybe 18 days and a lot, but we did not really want to leave the island. I advise everyone to visit there. This is an exotic that will not be replaced by any Turkey or Egypt. The vast majority of people live very poor, but have not lost their kindness and always smile at tourists. To see the real Sri Lanka, I advise you not to stay in a hotel, as Europeans do, but because we just walk along the coast a few kilometers from the hotel, in the city, on the central and small streets, bus and train stations. Then you will really understand Sri Lanka. And the nature everywhere is JUST SUPER.
I haven't told you much yet, because then it won't be a review, but a whole book.
If you are going to Sri Lanka, and in particular to the Blue Water Hotel, I will be happy to answer all your questions, write
