How about smoking in the Riu chain?

Is everything really as tough as described in the comments to the hotels (only in special places)? It’s unrealistic to smoke on the balcony (I didn’t intend to in the room anyway ...)?

Good afternoon! I choose between RIU hotels in Mexico (Riviera Maya), but I can't find a difference between Hotel Riu Playacar, Hotel Riu Yucatan, Hotel Riu Palace Mexico. we bought a ticket with the bride for our first trip ..... Haven't vacationed anywhere yet!
