Durres Castle and Venetian Tower

Tora Veneciane, Durres Fortress, Byzantine tower
Albania, Durres
Durres Castle is a fortress built by the Byzantine emperor Anastasius in the 5th century AD. The fortress survived a devastating earthquake and was reconstructed in 1273. Several towers, walls and three passage arches have remained from the ancient citadel to our times. The main tower of the castle, with the advent of the guards of the Republic of Venice, was strengthened and acquired a round shape. During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, the tower was further strengthened.
In our time, this tower is called the Venetian. There is a youth bar inside.

The tower itself is not very well preserved, but it is still a historical monument. There is a cozy bar inside the tower. You can drink a glass of cool wine after a hot day and enjoy the atmosphere. And a bar in an ancient tower is, by definition, an unusual place.
