Riegersburg Castle, Schloss Riegersburg
Austria, Riegersburg
Riegersburg Castle is the largest castle in Austria. It is located in the Styria region, near the town of Riegersburg, on a high cliff with a magnificent view of the surroundings. The castle was built in 1122 by Rüdiger von Heunberg, and has been rebuilt several times since then. Riegersburg Castle acquired its modern look in the middle of the 17th century, during the reign of Baroness Katharina Elisabeth von Haller.

The first mention of Riegersburg Castle is usually attributed to the 12th century. The castle has never been conquered by enemies in its history. In the 18th century, it passed into the possession of the ancient princely family of Liechtenstein, who own the castle to this day. You can go up to the fortress on foot or by elevator. In the courtyard of the fortress there is a well surrounded by an intricate wrought-iron fence with a horseshoe woven into the pattern. It is said that the one who manages to find it will be lucky in life.
