The first mention of Riegersburg Castle is usually attributed to the 12th century. The castle has never been conquered by enemies in its history. In the 18th century, it passed into the possession of the ancient princely family of Liechtenstein, who own the castle to this day.

You can go up to the fortress on foot or by elevator. In the courtyard of the fortress there is a well surrounded by an intricate wrought-iron fence with a horseshoe woven into the pattern. It is said that the one who manages to find it will be lucky in life.

The Museum of Witches on the territory of the castle is also popular. The fact is that the so-called "trials of witches" took place in Riegersburg. It was not in the dense Middle Ages, but some 250 years ago. During these trials, 95 (!!! ) people were found guilty and burned. Among them was the wife of the castle keeper - Katarina Paldauff, who was called the "flower witch".
The unfortunate woman was accused of the fact that her garden is unbelievably good and could not do without the intervention of evil forces. In the museum, you can also see a board on which the flight routes of local witches are drawn.

I visited the fortress as part of a group bus tour, so I don’t have any information about the technical details (how much it costs and how to get there).
