Museum of Art History

Kunsthistorisches Museum, Museum of Art History, Museum of Fine Arts, Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna
Austria, Vienna
The Museum of the History of Art is located on Maria Theresa Square and is part of its architectural ensemble. The museum was opened under Emperor Franz Joseph in 1891, along with the Museum of Natural History, similar in appearance and located opposite. The basis of the museum collections were the family collections of the Habsburg dynasty, which were collected by kings, emperors and archdukes from the 15th century. Here you can see paintings by many famous artists, especially Dutch (Bosch, Rembrandt, Brueghel the Elder), Italian (Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Veronese, etc.), German (Dürer, Cranach the Elder, Holbein, etc.) and Flemish ( Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Snyders) painting. The main building of the museum houses 91 halls, which, in addition to the world-famous art gallery, also contain a collection of Oriental and Egyptian antiquities, a collection of ancient monuments, works of Western European sculpture, a cabinet of curiosities and a numismatic cabinet.

The collection of works of art is invaluable, and you do not need to be an art critic to appreciate the uniqueness of the exhibits. The museum building itself, built in the late XIX century, resembles a palace. In front of the building is a broken park, in which stone monuments and sculptures are interspersed with living - figured trees and shrubs, of course, are an example of landscape art. The interior of the Museum of Art History also impresses with luxury and sometimes unusual space design.

I visited the museum with my husband in January 2019. They were completely delighted. Unusual beauty!! ! Moreover, the beauty of the museum is not only in its exhibits, but also in the beauty of the museum itself. I want to share my experience so as not to waste time on unnecessary queues, but money on gadgets that do not justify themselves. 1. The queue for the wardrobe - it is not necessary to undress. 2. I do not recommend paying for an audio guide in Russian and standing in line for it, because out of more than 5.
