The famous Viennese Graben street is located in the Inner City and resembles an elongated square in shape. The street is decorated with two fountains (Joseph and Leopold), and in the center is the Plague Column, built in gratitude for getting rid of the plague.

The street got its name Graben (translated as “moat”) from a defensive moat, covered with earth in the 13th century, on the site of which the street is located. Currently, there are many famous attractions, casinos, cafes here.

Wide pedestrian zone
This street is considered the most elegant and expensive in Vienna. Lots of shops and cafes. The plague column deserves a separate post, it will be. And two fountains - once just fire ponds, and now beautiful sculptures with explanatory reliefs on pedestals.→

One of the most famous streets in Vienna
The famous pedestrian street in Vienna, which leads from St. Stephen's Cathedral to the imperial residence. Graben got its name from the ancient Roman defensive ditch (translated from German graben means "ditch"), which was covered with earth in the 13th century. On the Graben there is the Plague Column, traditional for European cities, reminiscent of the plague that hit the city in the 16th century. Today, there are all kinds of cafes, shops, open-air exhibitions of contemporary art. And during the Christmas fairs, the Graben is decorated with festive illuminations - an amazing sight!.→
