Belfort Bell Tower (14th century) during its existence performed a wide variety of functions: - in the 15th century, all the city's treasures (the city's treasury and the magistrates, confirming the tax privileges of local guilds) were kept in a chest hidden in the Belfort cache; - until the 19th century, it played the role of a watchtower; - Belfort bells were originally used only for religious purposes, but with the growth and development of the city they began to warn local residents of a sudden attack or fire.
