Church of the Holy Seven

The Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Church
Bulgaria, Sofia
The Church of the Holy Seven Numbers is a church built in 1903 by architects Monchilov and Milanov. Previously, the Black Mosque stood on this site, built in 1528 under Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and so named due to the color of the marble from which the minaret was built. After the liberation of Bulgaria, the mosque was destroyed, and at the beginning of the 20th century it was rebuilt into an Orthodox church, and also supplemented with a bell tower and four domes.

This is a Bulgarian Orthodox church, which is located in the very center of Sofia in a small square on the corner of Graf Ignatiev and Tsar Ivan Shishman streets. Once it was a mosque and was called the "Black Mosque" because of the dark granite from which the minaret was made. During the earthquake, the minaret was destroyed and the mosque was abandoned. Then this church was a military warehouse, and even a prison. It is forbidden to take pictures in the church, but I can say that the inside is quite beautiful.
