The City Theater of São Paulo was opened in 1912. Its two-story building is of extraordinary beauty and resembles the Opéra Garnier in Paris. The theater is home to the Municipal Orchestra, the Ballet and the Lyric Choir of São Paulo. Here at different times such world celebrities as Enrico Caruso, Maria Callas, Vivien Leigh, Arturo Toscanini, Mikhail Baryshnikov performed.
