Lichtental alley

Alley Lichtentaler, Lichtentaler Allee
Germany, Baden-Baden
The Lichtental Alley is a historical park and arboretum representing a promenade along the west bank of the Oos River in Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Length - 2.3 kilometers.
Open daily, free of charge.
It is said that the alley was formed as a path between the city market and the Lichtental monastery. This process is believed to have begun in 1655. A full-fledged alley with many plants was built between 1850 and 1870 at the initiative of the Benase casino. Today, about 300 species of native and exotic woody plants grow on the alley, including alder, azalea, chestnut, ginkgo, linden, magnolia, maple, oak and plane tree. The avenue ends in the northwest with a mound, and begins in the southeast with a dahlia garden with busts of Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Robert Stolz.

The Lichtental Alley was founded over 350 years ago. During its existence, hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people have already managed to walk along the street. It stretches along the central part of Baden-Baden for just over two kilometers, but this is one of the most famous German alleys and, of course, the most Russian alley in Germany. It begins at the famous casino, where the young Leo Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, who had already recognized literary fame, played. The Rostopchins, Menshikovs, Golitsyns, Demidovs, Trubetskoys, Barclay de Tolly, the Grand Duke and future Emperor Alexander the First made the obligatory evening promenade here (he married the Baden princess Louise, who made Baden-Baden popular in Russia).
