Römer town hall

Romer
Germany, Frankfurt am Main
Römer is an old town hall, which is a complex of several buildings, one of the most important monuments of German history, a symbol of Frankfurt am Main, located on Römerberg Square. For centuries, the Römer was the site of the election and coronation of German emperors, and folk festivals were held in front of the Town Hall on this occasion. The Reichstag, the state assembly of the Empire, repeatedly met in the town hall. At the beginning of the 20th century, an administrative wing was added to the town hall and two towers were added. In 1963, US President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech from Roemer's balcony to 150,000 people.
In the Imperial Hall on the second floor there are 52 portraits of German kings and emperors; coronation banquets have been held here since 1612. The Roman and Swan Halls on the first floor housed expositions of the annual Frankfurt Fair. The City Hall also hosts honors for German sports teams that have achieved international success.
