Church of St. Nicholas

Marktkirche St. Nicholas
Germany, Hameln
The Church of St. Nicholas is a Lutheran church located near the Pied Piper's House. This is one of the oldest temples in Hameln. In the first half of the 12th century, a chapel was built on the site of the church, which was later rebuilt. In 1945, the temple building was almost completely destroyed as a result of shelling. In 1957-1959, the church was restored and it acquired its modern look. On the south side of the church there is a mosaic glass with an image based on the legend of the rat-catcher.

The history of the Church of St. Nicholas has been around for about eight hundred years. The building was badly damaged during the Second World War, but was virtually restored from scratch. The entrance to the church is free. You can climb the bell tower for a nominal fee (something around 2 euros) and look at Hameln's toy houses from a bird's eye view. Address: Emmernstrabe 6
