I will say right away: we were for the next trip to Montserrat twice. The presence of the car contributed to this. Parking a car for the whole day on the territory of 6.5 euros. You can pay at the machine (you get a ticket at the entrance, the first half hour is free) or at the exit in the Manual row.
I advise you right away - come early, since the number of tourist buses and cars is simply colossal, if you arrive earlier, you will park closer to the entrance to the territory of the monastery. )
The first part of our visit was devoted to the monastery itself - a beautiful building, which (to be honest) is basically a remake, since the monastery was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt again. However, the Temple itself is beautiful. At 12-30 every day, except Saturday, the boys' choir sings. We, unfortunately, were a little late and could not enter before the start of Mass. There are a lot of people crowding into the Temple and during the mass you will not be allowed to enter.
Boys in the choir are selected all over Spain. We have this point of the tour is not closed, so it will be required to return. ))
To the right of the entrance to the Temple you will see a queue - those who want to see the Black Madonna of Montserrat (a relic of the Temple). According to legend, if you take her by the hand and ask her for something with all your heart, it will surely come true. Of course, we all, including our teenage son, found something to ask from Madonna. ) We stood in line, however, for more than an hour.
We walked along the lower part of the monastery, took wonderful photos, leaving the funiculars for the next visit. By the way, there is a buffet on the territory (this is a building BEFORE entering the territory of the monastery. Here for 16 euros you can have lunch until 16-00. That is, come in, pay and eat everything according to the buffet principle. Meat, soup, fish, various side dishes, everything for salads (including tuna, chopped jamon and smoked salmon), ice cream, fruits, beer, drinks, nuts. The son said that he ate so much that he almost burst his navel.
After 5 hours of walking around the monastery, the appetite still broke out. ))
The second time (there was time before the plane and we decided to spend it usefully), we still got on the funiculars. Tickets for both San Joan and San Coava funiculars cost 16 euros. San Coava is a funicular that takes you below the level of the monastery. Plan to stay here for at least 40 minutes. To the very church, where there was a hermit's cave, a quick walk of 20 minutes. There is something to photograph along the way, there are sculptures symbolizing the Passion of Christ and scenes from the life of the Mother of God. Around the extraordinary beauty of the mountain, you can see the town at the foot. The air is crystal!
The second funicular, Sant Joan, will take you up the mountain where you can walk to the three shrines. We spent over an hour walking, but there is still more to go. I just didn’t have the strength to walk in the heat, it was +33. Stock up on water!! !
