Fantastic views of the Montserrat mountain range near Barcelona simply left us no choice. Of course, when traveling in Spain, we could not miss such a beautiful and unusual place, so we devoted one day of our stay to a trip here. Getting from Barcelona is quite easy and fast. We lived just near the Plaza de Españ a, so we took the train from there towards the city of Manresa. We bought a ticket only to the Monistrol stop, as we planned to climb the mountain on foot. But you can use the Cremallera funicular or the Aeri cable car to go up and buy a ticket immediately including the ascent to the mountain. It took us about two hours to walk at a leisurely pace. For people in good physical shape, it is not difficult, but the heat in the summer can cause severe discomfort.
From the Monastery, we also walked deep into the mountains, enjoying the wonderful views around and went down the path to Aeri station in the late afternoon. You can also go back to Barcelona from here by train, which runs every hour, and sometimes even a little more often due to additional trains.
