Plaza de España is one of the most significant sights of the capital of Catalonia. The square was built during the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929, designed by Josep Puy Cadafals and Guillem Busquets, and finished by Antonio Darderem.

With an area of 34,000 square meters, the square ranks second in Spain after the Plaza de España in Madrid. The area is an important transport hub of the city. Under the square there are Espanya metro stations of lines L1, L3 and L8, as well as stations of city trains.

Incredible view

Probably the most beautiful square in Barcelona. During sunset, it is worth going up to the observation deck of the shopping center (the former bullring) and enjoy the most beautiful views.→

Must see in the list of attractions in Barcelona

The most beautiful square of the capital of Catalonia, which ranks second in size in Spain, yielding, for reasons of political correctness, only the Plaza of Spain in Madrid. Once there was a place of public execution, then there was a fortress. Today they are located here: 1. Former bullring (now a shopping mall) 2. Fountain by Josep Maria Jujol 3. Two Venetian towers (47-meter copies of the campanile from the Venetian Piazza San Marco) 4. The National Museum of Art of Catalonia, to which, in addition to the steps, a number of escalators also lead, facilitating the ascent of tourists.→
