Rise of Our Lady

Pujada de Nostra Senyora, Rise of Our Lady
Spain, Costa Brava
The rise of Our Lady connects Abbé Oliba Square and Virgin Mary Square in front of the entrance to the cathedral. The rise is adorned with a row of magnolias and a sculpture of Saint George, the patron saint of Catalonia. Facade of the Escolania School of Music and a hotel where pilgrims can stay overlook the street.

Through the portal, decorated with the sculpted coat of arms of Montserrat, you can climb to the main square of the Monastery. This road is called "Rise of Our Lady". In the niche of the left wall, note the sculpture of St. George, made by the sculptor Josep Subirax in 1986. Subirax depicted the patron saint of Catalonia as a knight with a shield and a sword. Guidebooks say that the knight is looking at you, from whatever angle you approach him. Although it seemed to me that the knight was looking rather inward.
