La Pêche d'Antan Festival

La Peche d'Antan
France, Lisle-sur-la-Sorgue
The La Pêche d'Antan festival takes place annually on the third Sunday in July. According to long-standing city traditions, on this day, fishermen gather on the Sorgue River to compete in fishing (until the beginning of the 20th century, crayfish were also caught, but now they have disappeared from these places), while demonstrating various traditional fishing methods. Trout fishing with bare hands looks especially colorful.

Every year, on the third Sunday of July, Ile-sur-la-Sorgue hosts an unusual festival "La Pеche d'Antan" organized by the "Pescaire Lilen" Brotherhood. This Brotherhood was founded in 1593 for social mutual assistance by the fishermen of the city. Today, all the old traditions of fishing are carefully preserved and once a year are shown to grateful spectators. So, on the Sorgue River (the area of the Allee du 18 Juin bridge) fishermen gather - members of the Brotherhood. A mandatory attribute is a punt boat, which is called "Le nego-chin".
