Church Notre-Dame-Des-Miracles

Église not-dame-des-miracles, Church of Notre-Dame-Des-Miracles
France, Orleans
Church Notre-Dame-Des-Miracles, located in the heart of Orleans, is a place of spirituality and rich history. This church, although not as grandiose as the Orleans Cathedral, is of particular importance for local residents and pilgrims.
The history of this holy place goes to the VI century, when the Syrian merchants brought here a wooden statue of the Black Madonna. In the 9th century, during the Normans attack, the legend says that prayers before this statue were miraculously, forcing the invaders to retreat.
The first church at this place was built in the 12th century, but, unfortunately, it was destroyed during religious wars in 1562, and the original statue also burned down. At the end of the 16th century, the church was rebuilt, and the statue was recreated from stone.
Église Notre-Dame-Des-Miracles played an important role in the history of Orleans. In 1429, Jeanne d'Arc came here to pray for a week before freeing the city from the English siege.
In 1940, during the Second World War, the church again suffered from bombing, but a chapel with a statue of Madonna miraculously survived. The modern church building was restored and opened in 1966, combining elements of old and new architecture.
Today, église notre-Dame-DES-Miracles is an important place of pilgrimage, especially during the Great annual nine in early October and holidays dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Visitors can see the restored statue of the Mother of God, pray in a quiet atmosphere and feel the rich history of this respected place. The church is open to visiting, and the entrance is free.

The cult of the Black Madonna goes back to the VI century. In the primitive church (1170-1180), then there was a wonderful statue. According to legend, it was here that Jeanne d’Arck prayed to the Mother of God, as described in the tablet on the wall of the church. But during the religious wars, the statue was burned, and the church was destroyed (1562). At the end of the 16th century, a new statue was created, and after the revolution, the building was restored. The church burned down in 1940, but in the chapel the fire did not affect anything.
