Monastery Vardzia

The cave monastery complex Vardzia is located in the valley of the Kura River in Georgia. It was built in the XII-XIII centuries, during the reign of Queen Tamara. In 1283 the complex was damaged by a major earthquake and was restored at the beginning of the 14th century. Currently, Vardzia is a functioning monastery and one of the popular attractions of Georgia.

Huge cave city.
The road to Vardzia is hilly and bumpy, so it can easily get sick. Therefore, those who do not tolerate mountain roads should think carefully before venturing on such a trip. The territory of the cave monastery complex is huge, and you will have to climb all the time uphill to get to the caves. All transport is in a special parking lot at the foot of the mountain. My experience of visiting is incredible! This is a real multi-storey (! ) complex with streets, tunnels and stairs leading past monasteries, temples, fortresses, baths, libraries and residential buildings.→
