Knossos palace

Knossos, Knossos, Cnossus, Knossos Palace, Labyrinth
Greece, Heraklion
Knossos is an ancient city near the city of Heraklion. The main city of the island during the Minoan civilization. According to legend, in its vicinity was the labyrinth of Daedalus, where the Minotaur was imprisoned.

The palace of Knossos in Crete was called the "Labyrinth" because in the sanctuaries located in the palace, an image of a ritual double ax - "labrys" is often found.

The first palace of Knossos was built c. 2000-1700 BC e., the “early palace period”, on the remains of a Neolithic settlement that was located here earlier. This palace was destroyed by an earthquake c. 1700 BC e. However, the necessary restoration work was soon carried out and another palace was built in its place, which has come down to our time, the “new palace period”. Almost all the ruins that have survived to this day belong to the period before 1450 BC. e., the so-called new palace period.

Parody of antiquity. I do not advise anyone. It is better to just read about this place, but do not waste your precious time in Crete by visiting here, but give €15 per person for a delicious dinner)). If objectively, only a couple of stone walls and supposedly a throne in the form of a stool remained from antiquity.

A lot of what can be seen has been done recently. It is not interesting to look at the alleged antiquity. The heat is unbearable, there are a lot of people. The best thing that was on this trip - soft drinks in a cafe.

This place is important for history and for the very understanding of the ways of our civilization, but keep in mind that there is quite a bit of the present left there. First Sir Arthur Evans, at the beginning of the century, and then his followers at its end, rebuilt Knossos from spears and concrete. In addition, there are wild crowds and very hot. It's not even fun to take pictures.
