Rhodes port

Port of Mandraki
Greece, Rhodes
It was here that the Colossus of Rhodes once stood - one of the seven wonders of the world, a giant statue 36 m high. Now the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes is decorated with 2 columns with deer. This is a tribute to the brave animals for their help - in ancient times, when there were more snakes on the island than people, deer trampled the snakes aptly.

The port is also decorated with 3 windmills, and at the cape there is a windmill built in 1464-1467. the border fortress of St. Nicholas with a round tower, the diameter of which exceeds 17 m.

Rhodes is an island that still intoxicates with memories, sea breeze and legendary locations. A little background) I spent my vacation in the small village of Ixia, at the Ixian Grand Hotel. In choosing a hotel, the location to the capital of the island of the same name, Rhodes, played a plus. All my conscious life I read mythology and epic) a distance of 5-6 km ...and I plunged into the historical culture of this beautiful city. A taxi ride cost 6 euros, and even in a comfortable Mercedes. Port of Mandraki: windmills, the fortress of St.

Rhodes and its beauty start to make you dizzy as soon as you step on the embankment in the port. The majestic fortress wall on one side and the indescribable transparency of sea water in the port - yes, in the port, where usually everything is in some kind of oil stains - everything here is like in a fairy tale. Having walked along the embankment, past yachts, fortress towers and beaches, we went to the hallmark of Rhodes - windmills, and then to Fort St. Nicholas, located on a cape, consisting of huge boulders.

I always read in the textbook about the wonders of the world and dreamed of being where they are. It is a pity that the Colossus is lost, but she came to the port in order to make her childhood dream come true! Very picturesque, I did not regret that I came, an excellent tour and a wonderful guide Nadezhda Nikolaevna!

The port of Rhodes is a wonderful place! Nearby is the old city, boats with sponges, shells are moored on the embankment, ferries are already departing a little further. We lived very close at the Mitsis Petit Palais hotel, often came to visit the deer) There are also benches for dreamers like us) The traffic between the port and the old town is very busy, be careful!
