Széchenyi Bridge, Budapest Chain Bridge, Széchenyi lánchíd
Hungary, Budapest
The Szechenyi Chain Bridge is the first permanent bridge across the Danube, built in 1849 on the initiative of Count Szechenyi. The suspension bridge connects the squares of István Széchenyi in Pest and Adam Clark in Buda. The bridge is decorated with cast iron and pairs of lions at each of the entrances. In 1945, it was blown up by the Germans during their retreat from the city, but after exactly 100 years from its foundation, the bridge was reopened to traffic.

The bridge received its current name in 1898 after the Hungarian politician Count Istvan Szechenyi, who put a lot of effort and money into its construction. In addition to Szechenyi, much of the funding was provided by the Greek industrialist Georgios Sinas, who had significant financial and land interests in the city and whose name is inscribed in the foundation of the southwestern part of the bridge on the Buda side. The decorations of the bridge are made by cast iron. Lions on each of the pillars were carved out of stone by sculptor Janos Marshall.

The chain bridge connects two historical parts - Buda and Pest and was built in the 19th century. During the war years, the bridge was blown up by the retreating Nazis, but later it was restored and now it is the first permanent bridge across the Danube. The bridge offers a beautiful view at any time of the day. In addition, the bridge is quite convenient for both pedestrians and motorists, and you can also get beautiful photos here, both from the side of Pest and Buda.

Separately, in Budapest, you can admire the Chain Bridge, the Gresham Hotel, and the Basilica of St. Stephen! But on Buda there is a place from which you get a beautiful view of all these three attractions. The main thing is the weather!
