Jantar Mantar
India, Delhi
Jantar Mantar is a medieval observatory dating back to the 16th century. Since ancient times, Indian culture has attached particular importance to astrology and astronomy. The observatory was used to study the heavenly bodies, to make astrological forecasts for agriculture and everyday life, and to calculate solar and lunar eclipses. Now the Janta-Mantar observatory houses a museum. Five such observatories have survived to this day, located in different regions of India.
