The unique Delhi minaret "Qutub Minar" with a height of more than 72 meters is the highest in the world. The construction of the minaret lasted for 175 years, starting in 1163. The minaret is surrounded by several other sights, among them the oldest mosque "Kuvvat-ul-Islam" and the medieval gate "Ala-i-Darvaza" stand out. All together, the sights form a single complex - "Qutub Minar".

A unique monument of medieval Indian culture is the world's tallest brick minaret Qutb Minar. This minaret was built by several generations of Indian rulers as a kind of victory tower that shows the full power of Islam, and in addition to its traditional purpose - to call people to prayer - it was used as a watchtower. The minaret is crowned with complex ornaments that have nothing to do with Islam. The reason for this phenomenon is that stones from the destroyed Hindu temples were used to build the tower, hence such a mixture of styles.

Qutub Minar is a Victory monument used as a minaret. Sultan Kutb-ud-din began its construction in 1193 (according to other sources - 1163), after the defeat of the last Hindu principality. The height of the tower is about 73 m, the diameter is 15 m at the base and 2.5 m at the top. Qutub-ud-din managed to build only the first floor, and in 1326 lightning struck the tower. In 1368, Firuz Shah restored the upper floors and built a dome, which was destroyed by an earthquake. Next to Qutub Minar stands the first mosque in India, it was built on the ruins of a Hindu temple using elements from many other destroyed temples.
