The monument to Hugo Bassi, a priest and fighter for the unification of Italy, is located in the historical center of Bologna, not far from the delle Erbe food market, also known as the Bologna herbal market. The monument, which is a bronze sculpture on a stepped marble pedestal, was created in 1888 by the famous sculptor Carlo Parmigiani. In the same year, it was installed on Independence Street, near the Arena del Sole theater. After 12 years, the monument was moved to its current location. True, during the Second World War, in order to shelter the monument from bombing, it was moved to the garden of September 20 Square. And only in 2003 the restored monument returned to its original place - to the street named after the Italian patriot Hugo Bassi.

Hugo Bassi Monument

The Italian priest Hugo Bassi was a fighter for the unification of Italy, an ally of Garibaldi. He was shot by Austrian troops. A sculpture by Carlo Parmegani on another pedestal was erected in 1888 on Independence Street. After several relocations since 2003, the monument has been erected on Hugo Bassi Street.→
