Basilica of Saint Anthony

Basilica Pontificia di Sant'Antonio di Padova
Italy, Padua
The Basilica of St. Anthony is the largest church in Padua in terms of size and number of pilgrims, the main center of veneration of St. Anthony of Padua. The construction of the church began in 1232 and lasted almost 80 years. In the XIV-XV centuries, the basilica was reconstructed. In the central chapel is a magnificent chapel of relics in the Baroque style, the work of Filippo Parodi. Here is a rich collection of Christian shrines and masterpieces of Italian jewelry art.

When I got to Padua on the way, I really regretted that I had so little time for sightseeing. But I still got to this Basilica. I've read a lot that it's a must visit. Saint Anthony is the patron saint of travelers. The appearance did not impress me at all, I also thought what everyone admires so much. Even at the entrance they were upset that it was impossible to take pictures (((But when I went inside, I forgot about it ...and even the crowds of people could not spoil the impression of what they saw.

I was looking at the amazing interior with delight when a young, 30-year-old holy father in a cassock came up to me and demanded to put the camera in my bag. He reeked of malice in such a way that it seemed like saliva would now splash in addition to his hissing at me. It is forbidden to take pictures there, so the camera hung on my shoulder, it was turned off, the lens was covered with a cap. At this very time, a group of Japanese people nearby were photographing with a flash, but it was I who caused the anger with the camera turned off on my shoulder.

I waited a very long time for someone to write first about this unique city and unique place. Unfortunately or fortunately, I will be the first. Please do not judge my review strictly. In Italy, of course, Florence attracted me (forgive me, fans of Rome, but this is not my city). Padua was considered as a small bonus, since there was no time to see the Scrovegni Chapel, the rest was decided "at random". This tourist "maybe" has turned into a real gift! Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua! I confess right away that I am a Lutheran by baptism and faith, BUT Catholic shrines are interesting to me.
