Minerva Square

Piazza della Minerva
Italy, Rome
The square is located in the Pigna area and was named after the goddess of wisdom, Minerva. In 1667, a monument was erected here by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini in the form of an elephant with an obelisk on its back. Piazza Minerva is near the Pantheon and Basilica di Santa Maria sopra Minerva. On the south side of the square is the Palazzo Fonseca. In 1832, a hotel was opened in it, which operates to this day. Many celebrities have stayed here, including the French writer Stendhal.
