Borromini wanted to be buried in his beloved church of San Carlo alle Cuatro Fontane, but became depressed, burned the manuscripts and committed suicide. The church forbade the burial of suicides in holy places, but it was possible to convince church leaders that Borromini did not die immediately and repented before his death. With great difficulty, he managed to be buried in the church of the Florentine community next to his uncle, the architect Carlo Moderna.→
