Not far from Rome is the small town of Castel Gandolfo. And it is famous for the fact that it houses the summer residence of the Pope. At the time I was there, the residence itself was not accessible to tourists. But recently I read an article that now it is open to the public. The residence offers amazing views of Lake Albano. I went on a guided tour to Castel Gandolfo. But it's not hard to get there on your own. Or by train, but it stops at the bottom of the lake (up very high), for that you can swim in the lake.
