San Giorgio Maggiore is one of the most famous islands in the Venetian Lagoon. Area - 0.1 sq. km.

In the 10th century, a Benedictine monastery was founded here, which was destroyed several times (in 1223 from an earthquake), and subsequently restored several times. In 1565-1610, the architect Andrea Palladio erected the Cathedral of San Giorgio Maggiore. The cathedral has 3 naves with 6 chapels. Now the cathedral is the central building on the island.

Beauty Venice in the palm of your hand.
On the island, you need to allocate time to take a leisurely stroll through the park and climb the bell tower. There are no channels, fuss and a large number of people. The good news is that an elevator costs 6 euros to climb the bell tower. An elevator with glass walls clearly shows which stairs you are spared : ) Getting here is not difficult, the vaporetto will take you from the San Zaccaria stop for 4 euros. Swim for approximately 5 minutes. The view from the bell tower is amazing: a wonderful view of the city, the Venetian Canal, the Giudecca, the docks, the parked yachts and the blue distance.→

The bell tower of the Cathedral of San Giorgio Maggiore is an excellent viewing platform for contemplating the beauties of the Venetian lagoon! How to get there? Vaporetto number 2 goes to the island (the pier is located near Piazza San Marco). What is the price? Entrance to the cathedral itself is free, climbing the bell tower - 3 euros. Inside the cathedral, to the left of the entrance, there is a passage to the elevator, which will take you to the very top. And, what is nice, this island is very quiet and calm.→
