Column "Angel of Independence"

The Angel of Independence, Independence Column
Mexico, Mexico
The Independence Column (Angel of Independence) is a monument on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, commemorating the centenary of Mexico's victory in the 1810 War of Independence. The monument is a column 36 meters high with a bronze figure of the winged goddess of victory Nike 6.7 meters high on top. In the middle of the metal column there is a staircase with 200 steps leading to the observation deck. Symbolic figures of War, Law, Peace and Justice are located at the corners of the pedestal with the inscription "The Nation to the Heroes of Independence". Before the inscription there is a statue of a lion led by a child. Nearby are marble sculptures of the heroes of the Mexican War of Independence, whose remains are buried in a monument that is also a mausoleum.
